Ebook "Endospore-forming soil bacteria" following chapters that describe the current classification of these organisms, that review methods for their detection and for studying their life cycles in soils, and that examine their dispersal, other chapters show that they are active and dynamic members of soil floras that interact widely with other soil inhabitants, with roles in nitrogen fixation, denitrification, and soil remediation.

In this study, a new formulation based on the combination of two active constituents (zinc pyrithione and triclosan) and an inactive component (carboxymethyl cellulose polymer) was optimized for seed coating to control seed-borne pathogens. According to the in vitro antimicrobial tests, the combination of zinc pyrithione and triclosan showed a broader spectrum of phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi control.

The vic-dioximes are compounds with various industrial uses and scientific applications. Many coordination compounds have been synthesized based on vic-dioximes. This study presents the synthesis and full characterization of two vic-dioximes based on dichloroglyoxime, p-aminobenzoic acid, and p-aminotoluene. Their structures were proved by IR, 1 H, 13C and 15N NMR spectral analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction.

The Ceratocystis genus harbors a large number of phytopathogenic fungi that cause xylem parenchyma degradation and vascular destruction on a broad range of economically important plants. Ceratocystis cacaofunesta is a necrotrophic fungus responsible for lethal wilt disease in cacao. The aim of this work is to analyze the genome of C. cacaofunesta through a comparative approach with genomes of other Sordariomycetes in order to better understand the molecular basis of pathogenicity in the Ceratocystis genus.

The Ambrosia Fusarium Clade phytopathogenic Fusarium fungi species have a symbiotic relationship with ambrosia beetles in the genus Euwallacea (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Related beetle species referred to as Euwallacea sp. near fornicatus have been spread in California, USA and are recognized as the causal agents of Fusarium dieback, a disease that causes mortality of many plant species.

Trichoderma reesei is a widely distributed soil fungus that antagonizes numerous fungal phytopathogens. Random induced mutation by gamma radiation with five treatments TrME 1 (50 Kr), TrME 2 (100 Kr), TrME 3 (150 Kr), TrME 4 (200 Kr), TrME 5 (untreated) were studied for morphological study and chitinase activity. The result indicates that TrME 1 contain maximum i.e. 0.3201 chitinase enzyme units/mg of protein followed by TrME 4 recording 0.3108 chitinase enzyme units/mg of protein.

Two Pseudomonas spp. are isolated from different natural sources i.e. soil rhizosphere and marine water on selective media like cetrimide agar base and King’s B medium. Pseudomonas fluorescence NCIM 5096 and other two isolated of Pseudomonas produced siderophore with the yield 71%, 72.33%, 33% of hydroxamate type, in iron free succinate medium (SM). Nutrient medium inhibited the growth of siderophore while the succinate medium gave the maximum production of siderophore. pH has important role in production of siderophore i.e.

Fungal phytopathogens are causes of many plant disease and maximum loss of crop yields, especially in tropical regions. Chemical fungicides are extensively used in agriculture. However, these products may cause problems such as environmental pollution and affect human health, microorganism particularly fungi as biocontrol agents have high potential to control plant disease and ecofriendly without side effect on the environments.

Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary having significant role in modern science. Myconanotechnology is an emerging field, where fungi are being used for the synthesis of nanoparticles with desirable size and shape. Fungi have an added advantage over bacteria as well as actinomycetes, as fungi are excellent secretors of proteins leads to a higher yield of nanoparticles which are highly stable, cost-effective, eco-friendly and non-toxic.

A total of 17 endophytic actinomycete strains were obtained from 6 medicinal plants of Mizoram, Northeast, India. 16S rRNA results showed 13 (73.3%) of the isolates belonged to the genus Streptomyces, 2 (13.3%) were Nocardiopsis, 1 (6.6%) were Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens and 1 (6.6%) Actinobacteria bacterium. The highest number of endophytic actinomycetes was isolated from root tissue of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. (29.4%) followed by stem of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. and rhizome of Costus speciosus (J. Konig).

It became clear that, among of recorded fungi widely is spread phytopathogens. Fungi which characterized as a true biotrophs causes diseases such as brown decay, white decay, rust, riding, floury dew, phytotor, plasmapore, peronospora and oth. on the studied essential oil plants.

Management of crop diseases by biological control is an alternative and effective approach with minimum deleterious effect on environment and human health for ecosystem stability leading to improvement in crop yields. The present study was undertaken to characterize antagonistic rhizosphere bacteria against phytopathogenic fungi i.e., Neovossia indica and Rhizoctonia solani, which cause Karnal bunt and root rot disease, respectively. Twenty two rhizobacterial isolates out of total 88 isolates obtained from wheat rhizosphere, 25% isolates inhibited the growth of both R. solani and N.

Major phytopathogens (fungi, bacteria and viruses) cause heavy damage to crop plants. The comprehensive knowledge of phytopathogens nature i.e. biotrophic, hemibiotrophic and necrotrophic, their intrusion tools by which they get entrainment in plant cell and the machinery of nutrient acquisition so we can make a better understanding about the phytopathogen. This information about phytopathogen helps us to develop novel disease control strategy against them.

Dirty panicle disease (DPD) caused by several fungal phytopathogens results in damage and depreciation of rice seeds. Unhealthy rice seeds with DPD are potent reservoirs of pathogens and unable to be used as seed stock as they can spread the disease in the paddy fields leading to the severe loss of rice yield and quality.

Die-back and fruit rot diseases are major yield limiting factor in all chilli growing areas of India. Trichoderma species are commonly used as biological control agents against phytopathogenic fungi and represent differential capacity of antagonism. In the present investigation, the effect of seven native Trichoderma isolates from Madhya Pradesh was examined for management of chilli die back and fruit rot using seed treatment with three foliar sprays of respective isolate.

The antagonistic activities of fluorescent Pseudomonas sp. isolated from rhizospheric soil of apple orchard of Himachal Pradesh were studied against two fungal pathogens viz., Dematophora necatrix and Phytophthora cactorum which were previously isolated from apple rhizosphere. The optimum conditions for growth and maximum production of antifungal activity by two selected fluorescent Pseudomonas sp. viz., An-2-nali and Pn-2- kho were detected.
