The diversity and abundance of dinoflagellates in the inshore waters off Karwar and Kali estuary was studied for a period of thirteen months (Dec 14 to Dec 15). Thirty two species of dinoflagellates were recorded during the study of which thrifty one species of dinoflagellates were recorded in the inshore waters off Karwar and twenty eight species of dinoflagellates were recorded in Kali estuary which joins the Arabian sea. Ceratium was dominant genera in both inshore waters and Kali estuary.

Objectives : As a result of global warming, precipitation is likely to increase at certain area (high latitudes). However, the mechanisms that human activity is influenced by global climate change are far from completely understood. We try to analyze the relationship between industrial emission (trace metal, nitrogen and phosphorus) and climate signature (precipitation) by Chinese industrialization progresses.

Phytoplankton and zooplankton densities in Hirfanli Dam Lake were studied between July 1999 and June 2000. In addition, phytoplankton biomass was measured using chlorophyll a concentration. The density of Cladocera at the surface and that of Rotifera at the bottom were low in the summer months. For phytoplankton, Cyclostephanos dubius (Fricke) Round was dominant.

The lowest diversity value was observed in the first station in January, 2001. Lake Gölbafli has mesotrophic characteristics due to the seasonal distribution of phytoplanktonic organisms. However, it will be necessary to conduct further physical and chemical analyses of the lake water to obtain more detailed information about the trophic status of the lake.
