Phytoplankton communities

The trophic levels in urban lakes are typically based on the forms of nutrition and phytoplankton communities in the lakes. In this study, comparisons between eutrophication indices and the water quality index (VN-WQI) were used to classify the water quality of 20 lakes in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Phytoplankton which can affect higher trophic levels play a pivotal role as primary producers. Phytoplankton structure and diversity may, besides other factors, be controlled by the changing of water temperatures. Hence, the present study aimed to determine some relationship between phytoplankton assemblage and water temperature in Ba Lai River, Vietnam.

The main objective of this study was to confirm and estimate the algal inhibiting effects of the ethanol and ethyl acetate E. fortunei extracts at concentrations of 500 mg.L- in some natural water samples collected from Hoan Kiem and Lang Lakes. The results of this work may be useful for controlling the toxic cyanobacterium bloom in natural aquatic ecosystem.
