Staphyloxanthin (STX) is a carotenoid pigment produced by Staphylococcus aureus to protect the bacteria from oxidation stress. Eliminating Staphyloxanthin from S. aureus cell membrane by inducing the pigment photolysis using 460nm light, then killing weakened bacteria with an H2O2 solution could be a new approach to develop anti - Staphylococcus aureus procedure.

This case reports the synchronous diagnosis of two rare unrelated diseases; leiomyosarcoma and tenosynovial giant cell tumor of the knee. It focuses on the challenges of diagnosing tenosynovial giant cell tumor, including cognitive biases in clinical medicine that delay diagnosis.

Xeroderma pigmentosum is an extremely serious genetic disorder defined by sensitivity to sunlight, resulting in sunburn and pigment changes. If patients are not completely protected from ultraviolet radiation, xeroderma pigmentosum is characterized by a greatly increased risk of sunlight-induced cutaneous neoplasms.

Crucian carp is a popular ornamental strain in Asia with variants in body color. To further explore the genetic mechanisms underlying gray and red body color formation in crucian carp, the skin transcriptomes and partial DNA methylation sites were obtained from red crucian carp (RCC) and white crucian carp (WCC).

Color perception is important for fish to survive and reproduce in nature. Visual pigments in the retinal photoreceptor cells are responsible for receiving light stimuli, but the function of the pigments in vivo has not been directly investigated in many animals due to the lack of color-blind lines and appropriate color-perception tests.

The neural crest (NC) is a class of transitory stem cell-like cells unique to vertebrate embryos. NC cells arise within the dorsal neural tube where they undergo an epithelial to mesenchymal transition in order to migrate and differentiate throughout the developing embryo. The derivative cell types give rise to multiple tissues, including the craniofacial skeleton, peripheral nervous system and skin pigment cells.

Enormous variability in skin colour and patterning is a characteristic of teleost fish, including Salmonidae fishes, which present themselves as a suitable model for studying mechanisms of pigment patterning. In order to screen for candidate genes potentially involved in the specific skin pigment pattern in marble trout (labyrinthine skin pattern) and brown trout (spotted skin pattern), we conducted comparative transcriptome analysis between differently pigmented dermis sections of the adult skin of the two species.

This paper deals with the phosphate limitation on growth, biomass, cell integrity and biochemical constituents of marine cyanobacterium, Lyngbya sp. BDU 90901. Lyngbya sp. BDU 90901 exhibited optimum growth (µ= 0.63), fresh biomass (3.3.7g/l), dry biomass (0.67g/l), chlorophyll-a (9.3 µg/ml), carotenoids (2.0 µg/ml), carbohydrate (600 µg/ml) at 25th day and protein (25 µg/ml) at 20th day of incubation.

Inflammation is a major cause of cartilage destruction and leads to the imbalance of metabolic activities in the arthritic joint. Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) has been reported to have both pro- and anti-inflammatory activities in various cell types and to be upregulated in the arthritic joint, but its role in joint destruction is unclear.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is an uncommon entity of proliferative lesion of the synovium, presenting with different clinical signs and symptoms. PVNS rarely forms an osteolytic lesion in a bone. Here we report a unique case of PVNS with a nodular lesion in the left patella.

One of the most important factors for carotenoids production is salt; it is therefore important to evaluate the influence of this element on the growth and the capacity of the microalgal cells to the accumulation of carotenoids. The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate cell growth and carotenoids production in native Moroccan strains of Dunaliella spp. under laboratory conditions in the presence of a salt stress regime and their ability to produce large cellular and pigment biomass. This can be a source of antioxidant compounds.

Bovine ocular squamous cell carcinoma also called cancer eye, represents the most economically important neoplasm in large animals. Hereditary factors, environmental factors (e.g. latitude, altitude, exposure to sunlight), lack of eyelid pigmentation, age and dietary habits have all been reported to play a role in the etiopathogenesis of bovine ocular squamous cell carcinoma. Twenty four animals were subjected to surgical excision and autogenous vaccine was administered weekly once for four weeks. All the animals recovered completely with no recurrence for a follow up period of one year.

Trichosporon spp. are ubiquitous fungi and form normal flora on skin and gastrointestinal tract of humans. There are at least nine Trichosporon species that are potentially pathogenic to humans. A 29 year old male visited our lab for skin scraping and examination of diffuse de-pigmented patches over both soles associated with scaling for more than a month. Skin scraping was done from both the soles. On direct KOH mount, budding yeast cells with hyphae were seen, suggestive of yeast like fungus. The culture growth was identified as T.

Metastases account for 90% of all cancer-related deaths, becoming a therapeutic problem. Approximately 50% of all uveal melanoma (UM) patients will develop metastases, mainly in the liver. Post-mortem analyses of livers from metastatic UM patients showed two different metastatic growth patterns: infiltrative and nodular.
