  • Enormous variability in skin colour and patterning is a characteristic of teleost fish, including Salmonidae fishes, which present themselves as a suitable model for studying mechanisms of pigment patterning. In order to screen for candidate genes potentially involved in the specific skin pigment pattern in marble trout (labyrinthine skin pattern) and brown trout (spotted skin pattern), we conducted comparative transcriptome analysis between differently pigmented dermis sections of the adult skin of the two species.

  • In cultural characteristics six characters like colony colour, colony diameter, pigmentation, margin type, growth pattern and aerial hyphae were recorded. Maximum radial growth i.e. 90 mm was given by isolate Rb-07 of Sabalpur village followed by Rb-02 and Rb-12. Least radial growth of 45 mm was given by Rb-03 isolate of Nandpur village. Pigmentation was also observed in four isolates. Aerial hyphae were produced by six isolates.

  • In the present paper, the ceramic pigments FexZn1-xCr2O4 (x = 0  1) were synthesized with the starch-assisted sol-gel method. The resulting pigments were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and CIE L*a*b* color measurement. The results show that FexZn1-xCr2O4 pigments form at sintering temperature of 1100 OC for 60 minutes. The ACr2O4 spinel (A: Zn, Fe) and FeCrO3 perovskite phase with excellent crystallinity appears. The brown color intensity increases gradually with the increase of the number of substituted Fe2+ cations.

  • Cultural, morphological and molecular characteristics of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri, eight isolates indicated a great variability amongst them. However, the isolate FOC-2 (Jalna) exhibited maximum mycelial growth of 90.00 mm. The isolates viz., Jalna (FOC-2) and Beed (FOC-3) produced partially submerged (FOC-2) to submerged (FOC-3) white sparse dense growth with smooth margin and bright white substrate pigmentation. Maximum micro-conidial, macro-conidial and chlamydospore size (17.20 µm, 30.50 x 7.00 µm and 21.80 x 19.60 µm) was recorded in isolate Jalna (FOC-2).

  • Black banded disease of mango, caused by Peziotrichum corticolum (Massee) Subramanian, is becoming severe for the last three to four years in all the mango growing regions. Morphological and cultural characteristics of the pathogen were studied. The identity of the fungus was confirmed. The fungus showed maximum radial growth on host extract dextrose agar on 12th day after incubation at 27±1oC. Culture of P. corticolum exhibited diversity with respect to cultural characters like type of the growth, mycelial colour, pigmentation and colony margin.

  • Colour patterns are the most distinct phenotypic traits in the majority of the living organism including fishes and considered as one of the main influencing factors in consumers’ buying decisions. Color traits are regulated by mainly four types of pigments stored in chromatophores. Melanin, is one of the most important pigment of cells, responsible for the coloration. Tyrosinase is a characteristics enzyme in melanin biosynthesis. Modulation of tyrosinase is of significance in the ornamental fish industry, food fishes as well as in humans.
