The study indicated that the PPFM and PGRs could be effectively improving drought tolerance capacity of tomato crop under drought. Among the PGRs and different concentrations of PPFM used, PPFM (2%) was found to superior in improving RWC, photosynthetic rate, SPAD value and proline content. The anti oxidant enzyme, catalase activity was enhanced by PPFM (2%) and salicylic acid (100 ppm) treatments which has the ability to protect the plant under abiotic stress by nullifying oxidative damage.

Drought is major abiotic stress around the world which posturing great challenges to the germination, growth and production of crops. Early crop growth stages like germination and seedling growth are very critical under drought. Seed treatment technologies are required to enhance the germination and stress tolerant index of the seedlings under drought condition. The investigation was aimed to carry out to assess the impact of PPFM (Pink Pigmented Facultative Methylotroph) and PGRs on alleviating the drought stress effects in tomato in early growth stage.

Methylobacterium as a ubiquitous symbiont in phylloplane and its influence on crop growth at various stages. This Pink-pigmented facultative methylotrophic bacteria (PPFMs) strains isolated from the phylloplane of Echinochloa frumentacea. A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of Methylobacterium with combination of treatments viz., seed imbibition, soil application and phyllosphere spray in kudiraivali under dryland conditions. This treatment was imposed at 30 and 60 days after sowing.

Methylobacterium spp. are a group of bacteria known as pink-pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFMs) capable of growing on single carbon compounds such as formate, formaldehyde, and methanol as well as on a variety of multicarbon compounds having no carbon-carbon bonds. They are distributed ubiquitously in the plant phyllosphere and rhizosphere and have been isolated from many species of plants. Methylotrophs are known to play an important role in increasing crop yield and soil fertility.

Field studies were conducted to study the role of native pink pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFMs) in plant growth promotion and anthracnose management in chilli. The efficient PPFM isolates were identified for field evaluation upon in-vitro functional characterization. Three selected isolates (PPFM6, PPFM170 and PPFM35) along with their consortium, the reference strain of PPFM (Methylobacterium extorquens AM1), chemical control (carbendazim) were included in field experiment.

Drought stress affects various physiological and metabolic processes in rice (Oryza sativa L.) plant. Non-availability of high-yielding varieties suitable for cultivation under drought condition lead to sharp decline in rice yield. The current study was aimed to carry out to assess the impact of PPFM and plant growth promoters on mitigating drought stress effects in semi dry rice.

A pot culture experiment was carried out at Department of Agricultural Microbiology, College of Agriculture Bhimarayanagudi, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur during 2017 to study the effect of pink pigmented facultative Methylotrophs on growth and yield of direct seeded rice. All the PPFM isolates were tested for a selective biochemical tests. All the isolates showed positive results for Oxidase test, Urease test, and Indole production. None of the isolates showed positive results for casein hydrolysis, MR and VP test, nitrate reduction test.

Investigations were carried out to study the plant growth promotional ability of native pink pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFMs) of major chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) growing areas of North Karnataka. Selected isolates were screened for beneficial characters like production of phytohormones, phosphate solubilisation and siderophore production. Highest indole 3 acetic acid and gibberellic acid production was recorded in PPFM6, 19.77 and 128.28 g/ml of culture filtrate, respectively. The strain PPFM170 recorded highest cytokinin production (2.54 g/ml).
