Intra-abdominal pregnancies, while rare, present with unique diagnostic and management challenges. We present a case of a 25-year-old para 2+1, black African woman, who was referred from a peripheral Health Centre level IV in the Northern part of Uganda to a Regional Referral Hospital due to an abnormal presentation with easily palpable fetal parts.

Gestational disorders such as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and pre-eclampsia (PE) are main causes of poor perinatal outcomes worldwide. Both diseases are related with impaired materno-fetal nutrient transfer, but the crucial transport mechanisms underlying IUGR and PE are not fully elucidated. In this study, we aimed to identify membrane transporters highly associated with transplacental nutrient deficiencies in IUGR/PE.

Anaemia is a pathological condition in which the oxygen carrying capacity of red blood cells is insufficient to meet body’s needs, which leads to problems to mother and poor fetal and placental outcome. The aim of the study was to compare the fetal and placental outcome among Anaemic and non- anaemic mothers of selected hospital of district Mohali, Punjab.A quantitative research approach with comparative design was adopted.

Pregnant women in India belonging to low socio-economic group are exposed to a variety of infections due to poor hygiene and environment. Though placental barrier prevents some microbes crossing from maternal into fetal circulation, TORCH agents cross the barrier and result in various clinical conditions. Objectives of the study are to study the seroprevalence of TORCH infections in pregnant women with Bad obstetric history (BOH) and also to know the outcome of these infections in newborn.

Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a serious complication of 10–15% of twin or triplet pregnancies in which multiple fetuses share a single placenta. Communicating placental vessels allow one fetus (the donor) to pump blood to the other (the recipient).

Lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths in males for decades, has recently become one of commonest causes for women too. As women delay the start of their family, the co-existence of cancer and pregnancy is increasingly observed. Nevertheless, lung cancer during pregnancy remains a rather uncommon condition with less than 70 cases published in recent years. Non-small cell lung carcinoma is the commonest type accounting for about 85% of all cases. Overall survival rates are low. Chemotherapy and/or targeted treatment have been used with poor outcomes.

This book summarizes several aspects of GD, which is caused by not well-understood multifactorial mechanisms. Common strategies seem to be key in the understanding of the syndrome, i.e., endothelial dysfunction and the role of other placenta cells such as trophoblasts. It is a book that will definitively help to increase the knowledge-based management of GD for the well being of the mother and the fetus.
