  • Thirty interspecific crosses (including reciprocals) involving three genotypes/varieties of greengram (Vigna radiate (L) Wilczek) cv. HUM 1 HUM 2 & HUM 8 and five genotypes/varieties of blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) cv. T 9, Pant U 19, PDU 1, BHUU 1 & BHUU 91-346-1 were attempted. Nine out of 30 crosses were successful only when greengram was used as seed parents. The crossability ranged from 0.0 to 61.0 per cent. Germination, survival and pod bearing habit of the F1s hybrids were much better in Kharif season as compared to spring/summer season.

  • A study on direct and indirect effects of 12 different quantitative characters of brinjal through path analysis study on yield and its component traits had revealed that days to first flowering had the maximum positive direct effect followed by plant height, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight and node at which first flowering appear, while rest of the characters like days to 50% flowering, number of branches per plant, days to edible maturity, days to first fruiting, fruit girth and fruit length exhibited negative direct effect.

  • Heterosis over mid parent was estimated in thirty crosses of China aster involving six lines viz., Matsumoto Pink, Matsumoto Red, Matsumoto Rose, Matsumoto Yellow, Matsumoto Scarlet and Matsumoto White and five testers viz., Phule Ganesh Violet, Phule Ganesh Purple, IIHRJ3-2, IIHRG13 and Local White during 2016-17 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru. Results revealed that the cross L5 × T1 exhibited highest positive significant relative heterosis for plant height, number of branches per plant, and duration of flowering.

  • Correlation studies revealed that the genotypic correlations were higher than their corresponding phenotypic correlation for all the characters and the depended trait pod yield per plant was significantly and positively correlated at both phenotypic and genotypic levels with number of mature pods per plant, kernel yield per plant, shelling percent and days to 50% flowering.Path coefficient analysis revealed that kernel yield per plant, number of mature pods per plant exhibited high and positive direct effects on pod yield per plant.

  • Twenty five carrot genotypes were evaluated for different parameters in a randomized complete block design with two replications. Correlation analysis revealed that total yield/ha exhibited positive significant association with plant height at 60 DAS, plant height at harvest, leaf length, petiole length, root weight, core diameter, core thickness and cortex thickness, while negative significant association was found with root/top length ratio at both genotypic and phenotypic level.

  • The present study was conducted on correlation and path coefficient analysis for seed cotton yield, its components and fibre quality traits in 20 cotton genotypes collected from Main Agricultural Research Station, UAS, Raichur, which was carried out during kharif 2018. M. College of Agriculture, NAU, Navsari, Gujarat.   • Ten genotypes as lines and three genotypes as testers of mungbean were investigated for combining ability analysis through crosses developed into line x tester passion.   • The experiment was conducted at college of Agriculture, Vijayapur to study heterotic performance of 40 sunflower hybrids over the checks (Standard heterosis) during kharif2018. The experiment consisted of 8 testers and 5 lines used in line x tester fashion to produce 40 hybrid combinations. These 40 hybrid combinations were studied for heterosis performance over two checks KBSH-53 and Cauvery Champ respectively. All the hybrid combinations showed negative heterosis for days to 50 % flowering over checks indicating earliness over both the checks.
