  • Rapeseed is one of the most important oilseeds crop in Assam, which plays a major role in enhancement the income of marginal and small farmers of Darrang district. One of the major constraints of low productivity of rapeseed farming is using of local varieties. However, delayed sowing & use of higher seed rate resulting into dense plant population, uneven plant population, uncontrolled weeds, ignorance about recommended doses of fertilizers and lack of plant protection measures were the predominant identified causes of low productivity of oilseeds in the district.

Two treatments were evaluated at 25 farmers and comprised of improved technology (i.e. high yielding varieties, seed treatment, timely sowing, recommended fertilizer management, plant protection measures and irrigation management compared with farmer’s practice.

  • Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhiwani had conducted Front Line Demonstration (FLD) at the farmers’ field in the villages of districts Bhiwani & Dadri during 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18. The critical inputs were identified in existing production technology through meetings & discussions with farmers. The farming situation of demonstration fields was irrigated, low in nitrogen, medium in phosphorus and potash and the soil was sandy loam.   • Finger millet or Ragi is one of the most important minor millet abundantly grown in southern parts of Karnataka. It plays a significant role in livelihood of small and marginal farmers in Ramanagara district of Karnataka, South India. Farmers generally follow traditional sowing method in Ragi using bullock drawn seed drill where uniformity in spacing and depth cannot be maintained.   • Investigation was undertaken during 2015-2016 and 2016-2017on farmer’s field to study the bio-efficacy of newer insecticides against Plutella xylostella L. infesting cabbage. The cabbage crop (var. Saint) was raised by following recommended package of practices except for plant protection measures. Treatments included of six newer insecticides along with two conventional insecticides and one synthetic pyrethroid. Results revealed that all the insecticidal treatments were significantly superior over untreated control by recording lower larval population.

  • A study was conducted to analyze the perception and pesticides usage practices by the small tomato growers in Ramanagara district of Karnataka using the pretested questionnaire and field observations. Detailed Information was obtained from 129 tomato growers wherein the information related to extent and types of pesticides used, knowledge about pesticides and their effectiveness was collected. Most of the respondents (98.44%) were male and most commonly farmers use 25 pesticides in tomato ecosystem.

  • The present investigation aimed at evaluating the importance of ca based nutrient sprays viz., the Bio-efficacy of Megacal containing Ca, Mg, K, Zn, Iron and Cu, as organic product. The sprays were used on apple cv. Red Delicious for a period of two years at farmers’ field in district Shopian during 2016 and 2017. Healthy trees of uniform age (20 years) were selected.
