Plant protection measures

Rapeseed is one of the most important oilseeds crop in Assam, which plays a major role in enhancement the income of marginal and small farmers of Darrang district. One of the major constraints of low productivity of rapeseed farming is using of local varieties. However, delayed sowing & use of higher seed rate resulting into dense plant population, uneven plant population, uncontrolled weeds, ignorance about recommended doses of fertilizers and lack of plant protection measures were the predominant identified causes of low productivity of oilseeds in the district.

The study was conducted in the purposively selected district Basti to analyze the problems of K.V.K. beneficially in adoption of recommended production of Wheat crop. On the basis of findings most of the farmers were having low level of knowledge about improved variety, seed treatment and plant protection measures.

Keeping in view the difference between wheat productivity of India and Afghanistan, this study was undertaken purposively with the specific objective “A Comparative Study on Wheat Production Technology Adopted by Afghan and Indian Farmers” because the researcher is sponsored by USA under Grain Research and Innovation (GRAIN) project. GRAIN project is exclusively based on increasing wheat production in Afghanistan by different ways and means of wheat production technologies.

The Cluster Front Line Demonstration (CFLD) programme on sesame was carried out in operational area of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samastipur during 2018-19. The fields were selected from different villages/clusters (each of 0.2-0.4 ha) of the district. The variety „Krishna‟ was sown at all the located fields. Fertilizer, compost application and plant protection measures were provided as per recommended package of practices.

The field experiments on green gram was carried out during four consecutive years 2016 to 2019 at farmer’s field of Bikaner districts under cluster frontline demonstrations conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bikaner to evaluate improved technology for enhancing the productivity and economics of green gram crop. Two treatments were evaluated at 25 farmers and comprised of improved technology (i.e. high yielding varieties, seed treatment, timely sowing, recommended fertilizer management, plant protection measures and irrigation management compared with farmer’s practice.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhiwani had conducted Front Line Demonstration (FLD) at the farmers’ field in the villages of districts Bhiwani & Dadri during 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18. The critical inputs were identified in existing production technology through meetings & discussions with farmers. The farming situation of demonstration fields was irrigated, low in nitrogen, medium in phosphorus and potash and the soil was sandy loam. The crop rotation was pearl millet-mustard, cluster bean-mustard and mung bean-mustard.

Finger millet or Ragi is one of the most important minor millet abundantly grown in southern parts of Karnataka. It plays a significant role in livelihood of small and marginal farmers in Ramanagara district of Karnataka, South India. Farmers generally follow traditional sowing method in Ragi using bullock drawn seed drill where uniformity in spacing and depth cannot be maintained. Quantity of seeds required for sowing is also more in this traditional method.

Investigation was undertaken during 2015-2016 and 2016-2017on farmer’s field to study the bio-efficacy of newer insecticides against Plutella xylostella L. infesting cabbage. The cabbage crop (var. Saint) was raised by following recommended package of practices except for plant protection measures. Treatments included of six newer insecticides along with two conventional insecticides and one synthetic pyrethroid. Results revealed that all the insecticidal treatments were significantly superior over untreated control by recording lower larval population.

A study was conducted to analyze the perception and pesticides usage practices by the small tomato growers in Ramanagara district of Karnataka using the pretested questionnaire and field observations. Detailed Information was obtained from 129 tomato growers wherein the information related to extent and types of pesticides used, knowledge about pesticides and their effectiveness was collected. Most of the respondents (98.44%) were male and most commonly farmers use 25 pesticides in tomato ecosystem.

The present investigation entitled “factors contributing for high yielding of cauliflower and to find out the constraints faced by the farmers in Khagaria District of Bihar” was carried out during 2017-18 120 respondents from 10 villages were randomly selected and data were collected and analysed by using appropriate statistical methods. Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is commonly known as gram which is one of the important pulse crops of the State. Front line demonstrations were conducted at 100 farmer's field in 40 hectares of 11 villages. To demonstrate production potential and economic benefits of improved technologies comprised viz., improve varieties (JAKI 9218 and JG 14) with seed rate of 75 kg/ha, line sowing with spacing of 30 cm (R-R) and 10 cm (P-P), seed treatment with bavistin 2 g/kg seed, balance dose of fertilizer, weed management and plant protection measures.

The present investigation aimed at evaluating the importance of ca based nutrient sprays viz., the Bio-efficacy of Megacal containing Ca, Mg, K, Zn, Iron and Cu, as organic product. The sprays were used on apple cv. Red Delicious for a period of two years at farmers’ field in district Shopian during 2016 and 2017. Healthy trees of uniform age (20 years) were selected. Cultural practices and plant protection measures were uniform for all the selected trees, irrespective of treatments. On each tree four branches from four sides were marked, for different flower and fruit observation measures.

A study was conducted during year 2018-19 to know the productiveness and functionality of Agro-met Advisories Services (AAS) and measured by the social economics benefit by adopting it at Anand district which falls under the semi-arid zone of Gujarat state. For this analysis, two groups of farmers were selected namely, farmers who adopted the Agro-met Advisories Services regularly for their field operation and the other group of farmers who were unaware of Agro-met Advisories Services (Non-AAS farmers).

Soybean is a major kharif crop of Kota district, which accounts for more than 50 percent acreage of kharif sown area of the district. Front line demonstrations (FLD’s) on soybean crop were conducted during kharif seasons of year 2016 to 2018 in 140 ha area on 340 farmer’s fields in 17 different villages of operational area of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kota to demonstrate production potential of improved agro-techniques. Technological interventions demonstrated consisted of use of variety JS 20-29 & JS 95-60, seed treatment with carbendazim50 WP @ 2.
