  • Ebook "Computational characterisation of gold nanocluster structures" is to further our understanding of structural and compositional preferences in gold nanoparticles, as well as the compositional and chemical ordering preferences in bimetallic nanoalloys formed with other noble metals, such as palladium and platinum. Highlights include: calculations of the structural preferences and optical-response of gold nanoparticles and gold-containing nanoalloys;...

  • Supported catalysts are of great interest because of their wide range of application possibilities. In this study, firstly silica spheres were synthesized and then platinum and nickel nanoparticles were incorporated on this silica by microwave irradiation, which is an efficient technique for catalyst preparation. Synthesized silica spheres and catalysts were characterized by BET, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and transmission electron microscopy techniques.

  • The prepared materials were characterized by using BET, TGA, XRD, and TEM techniques. Cyclic voltammetry was used in order to determine the electrocatalytic activity of the prepared catalyst for hydrogen oxidation and oxygen reduction reactions that occur in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The Pt loading obtained over the composite material was around 10%. TEM results showed highly dispersed and small nanoparticles over the composite material by using scCO2 deposition.

  • Enhanced electrocatalytic reduction of oxygen is achieved using Pt nanoparticle-modified copper phthalocyanine-multiwalled carbon nanotube (PtNPs/CuPc-CNT) composite film on a glassy carbon electrode (PtNPs/CuPcCNT/GCE). The PtNPs/CuPc-CNT/GCE surface is characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The electrocatalytic activity of composite electrodes in the oxygen reduction reaction is investigated by cyclic voltammetry and rotating-disk electrode measurements.

  • We present the results of a study related to phase transformation of chemically synthesized FePt nanoparticles under high pressure from face-centered cubic into face-centered tetragonal structure. As-synthesized nanoparticles are around 4.5 nm and show superparamagnetic behavior at 300 K. After annealing under 60 bar pressure of hydrogen at 400◦C for 2 h, nanoparticles exhibit strong ferromagnetic behavior with 5391 Oe coercivity.

  • The physical and chemical properties of bimetallic nanoparticles can be optimized by tuning the particle composition. In this study, we identified CO adsorption and dissociation energetics on five Pt-Mo nanoparticles at different concentrations, the lowest energy Pt7, Pt6Mo, Pt5Mo2, Pt4Mo3, and Mo7 clusters. We have shown that the CO adsorption and dissociation energies and preferred CO adsorption sites are largely dependent on the composition of the nanoparticles.

  • The aim of this study was to screen biogenic platinum nanoparticles for antifungal properties by a combination of in vitro methods. During this study, marine actinobacteria (Streptomyces sp. mediated biogenic platinum nanoparticles were screened for their antifungal activity against Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Penicillium sp., Candida albicans and C. tropicalis. Biologically synthesized platinum nanoparticles exhibited broad spectrum antifungal activity against test organisms.

  • Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary having significant role in modern science. Myconanotechnology is an emerging field, where fungi are being used for the synthesis of nanoparticles with desirable size and shape. Fungi have an added advantage over bacteria as well as actinomycetes, as fungi are excellent secretors of proteins leads to a higher yield of nanoparticles which are highly stable, cost-effective, eco-friendly and non-toxic.

  • The current study proposes a novel binary catalyst system (composed of metal/metal oxide nanoparticles) as a promising electrocatalyst in formic acid oxidation. The electro-catalytic oxidation of formic acid is carried out with binary catalysts of Pt nanoparticles (nano-Pt) and manganese oxide nanorods (nano-MnOx) electrodeposited onto glassy carbon (GC) electrodes. Cyclic voltammetric (CV) measurements showed that unmodified GC and nano-MnOx/GC electrodes have no catalytic activity. While two oxidation peaks were observed at nano-Pt/GC electrode at ca. 0.2 and 0.

  • The catalytic exchange of hydrogen isotopes between hydrogen and water has been known to be a very useful process for the separation of tritium from tritiated water. For the process, a highly active hydrophobic catalyst is needed. This study provides an effective fabrication method of size-controlled platinum/poly[styrene-divinylbenzene-tri(propylene glycol) diacrylate] [Pt/poly(SDB-TPGDA)] hydrophobic catalyst beads with a narrow size distribution.

  • In this work, platinum nanoparticles were dispersed on SBA-15 mesoporous material by incipient wetness method and the synthesized materials were characterized by XRD, TEM, EDX spectroscopies and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm measurement. The results indicated that 2D hexagonal ordered structure of SBA-15 was still maintained after grafting Pt on SBA-15 support and platinum nanoparticles existed both inside and outside the pore channels of SBA-15 material. Catalytic activity of these materials was tested in the aqueous phase D-glucose oxidation as a model reaction. ...
