Ebook The families and genera of vascular plants - Volume XIII: Flowering plants, monocots (Poaceae)
Ebook "The families and genera of vascular plants - Volume XIII: Flowering plants, monocots (Poaceae)" is the outcome of a modern phylogenetic analysis of the grass family based on multiple sources of data, in particular molecular systematic studies resulting from a concerted effort by researchers worldwide, including the author. In the classification given here grasses are subdivided into 12 subfamilies with 29 tribes and over 700 genera. The keys and descriptions for the taxa above the rank of genus are hierarchical, i.e.

The Poaceae family is of great importance to human beings since it comprises the cereal grasses which are the main sources for human food and animal feed. With the rapid growth of genomic data from Poaceae members, comparative genomics becomes a convinent method to study genetics of diffierent species.

This study was conducted to provide data on the weed species composition of the Cyperaceae and Poaceae in the rice fields in An Giang province. The study results show that the weed species composition of Cyperaceae and Poaceae families is very diverse with 38 species belonging to 25 genera, of which 27 are usable. The largest number of species is in crop 1 and in the fields inside the ring dike.

Bamboo is an important member of the family Poaceae and has many inflorescence and flowering features rarely observed in other plant groups. It retains an unusual form of perennialism by having a long vegetative phase that can extend up to 120 years, followed by flowering and death of the plants. In contrast to a large number of studies conducted on the annual, reference plants Arabidopsis thaliana and rice, molecular studies to characterize flowering pathways in perennial bamboo are lacking.

As global warming continues, heat stress (HS) is becoming an increasingly significant factor limiting plant growth and reproduction, especially for cool-season grass species. The objective of this study was to determine the transcriptional regulatory network of Cleistogenes songorica under HS via transcriptome profiling, identify of gene families and comparative analysis across major Poaceae species.

The genus Pyricularia (anamorph)/Magnaporthe (teleomorph) causes blast disease on a broad range of plants including rice, foxtail millet and other species of the family Poaceae. The infected leaves of foxtail millet with typical spindle shaped lesions of light tan in colour, dusty gray appearance with necrotic borders were collected from various regions of Tamil Nadu during 2017 and 2018 and the pathogen was isolated from the samples. The collected isolates were named as TNFxM1 to TNFxM32.

Rice (Oryza sativa) occupies a prime position in the family Poaceae and it is the highly consumable crop of almost half of the world's population. Among the various diseases affecting rice, blast incited by Magnaporthe oryzae is the one of the ubiquitous and economically important disease which affects almost all the stages of crop and cause yield loss upto 50%. In the present study, survey was carried out in Nilgiri and Madurai districts of Tamil Nadu for the collection of blast isolates. The blast disease incidence ranged from 8.8 to 42.4 per cent in various rice cultivars.

Sugarcane, (Saccharum officinarum) L., is one of the several species of tall perennial true grasses of the genus Saccharum. Sugarcane is the source of sugar in all tropical and subtropical countries of the world that belongs to family Poaceae. The various physical parameters of sugarcane crops such as Length, diameter of cane and node distance, were studied in Kawardha district, (C.G.).

Maize (Zea mays L.) a member of grass family, poaceae (gramineae) having 2n = 2x = 20 chromosomes is one of the most important cereal crops of India. Mexico and Central America are the origin place of this crop. It has more than thirty-two thousand genes in its genome and the size of genome is about 2.3 gigabase. The objective of this study was to evaluate seventy-seven maize genotypes in relation to heritability and genetic advance for fourteen quantitative traits.

Cultivated sugarcane (Saccharum spp. complex, 2n = 80-120) belongs to the genus Saccharum of the family Poaceae. Sugarcane (Saccharum spp. complex) is an important cash crop of the tropical and subtropical regions of the world for its distinct characteristic of high sugar concentration accumulated in the stalk. Genetic diversity gives species the ability to adapt to changing environments, including new pests and diseases and new climatic conditions.

The grass family (Poaceae), ca. 12,075 species, is a focal point of many recent studies that aim to use complete plastomes to reveal and strengthen relationships within the family. The use of Next Generation Sequencing technology has revealed intricate details in many Poaceae plastomes; specifically the trnI - trnL intergenic spacer region.

Here, we identify the nature, abundance and organization of all the repetitive DNA families in oats (Avena sativa, 2n = 6x = 42, AACCDD), a recognized health-food, and its wild relatives.
