Ebook "Honeybee nests: Composition, structure, function" introduction and discussion of nesting sites, their spaces and densities, self-organization of nest contents, and interspecific utilization of beeswax. The following chapters cover communication by vibrations and scents and wax secretion, and discuss the queen in relation to the combs. Discussions on completed nests include the significance of brood, the roles of pollen and nectar flow, and comb-building, and are followed by a triad of related chapters on the construction of cells and combs and their energetic costs.

Astrocaryum aculeatum is a palm tree species native to the tropical regions of South America, exploited commercially by local farmers for the pulp extracted from its fruits. The objective of this research was to compare the genetic diversity between adult plants and seedlings from open-pollinated seeds, quantify the pollen flow and dispersal, the spatial genetic structure, and the effective size of a population that has been continuously harvested for its fruits.

Anther culture is an effective breeding method for improving desirable traits, since it allows fast achievement of genetically homozygous lines. The present studies were carried out to evaluate the response of flue-cured tobacco anthers for high frequency pollen embryo induction in different culture media, and the effects of colchicine treatment on tobacco chromosome doubling. The results showed that different media caused significant changes in pollen embryo induction, in which the most obvious change was found in B medium with induction rates of 23.28%, 26.64%, and 28.

Gene flow in plants via pollen and seeds is asymmetrical at different geographic scales. Orchid seeds are adapted to long-distance wind dispersal but pollinium transfer is often influenced by pollinator behavior.

Switchgrass is C4 perennial grass species that is being developed as a cellulosic bioenergy feedstock. It is wind-pollinated and considered to be an obligate outcrosser. Genetic engineering has been used to alter cell walls for more facile bioprocessing and biofuel yield.

Pollen contamination is one of the important factors affecting the yield, adaptability, and genetic quality of the seed produced from seed orchards in forest tree breeding programs. Incoming pollen from the forests surrounding the seed orchard is a major concern in tree breeding because it contributes to losses in the expected genetic gains from seed orchard crops.

This is the first report of successful regeneration of haploid lines in iris (Iris pseudacorus) developed by in situ parthenogenesis followed by embryo rescue. Native genotypes of I. pseudacorus (2n = 38) were prepared as female parents and I. spuria was set as the males.
