  • Marrubium zeydanlii (Lamiaceae) is described as a new species from Turkey. It is similar to M. depauperatum and M. sivasense; however, it is distinguished from M. depauperatum by having lanate hairs on the stem, oblanceolate dentate leaves, 4–6-flowered verticillasters. It is also distinguished from M. sivasense by having lanate hairs on the stem, oblanceolate leaves, and shorter petals. The pollen grains are radially symmetrical and isopolar, the shape is oblate-spheroidal with the polar axes 16.7–20 µm and the equatorial axes 17.6–19.3 µm.

  • Micromorphological characteristics of 13 Trifolium species, which are grown in the province of Bolu, were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphological characteristics determined from the study were subjected to morphometric analyses and their variation spectrums were defined. Tricolporate pollen grains showed two pollen shapes, prolate and subprolate, according to equatorial view. The smallest size of polar axis length (18.00 μm) was found in T. micranthum Viv. from section Chronosemium Ser.; the largest (88.95 μm) was found in T. hirtum All.

  • Palynological characters of 20 taxa belonging to the Turkish subgenus Cyanus were studied in details using light and scanning electron microscopy. Pollen grains of the subgenus Cyanus were tricolporate or syncolporate, subprolate or prolate-spheroidal, 26.15 to 53 µm in polar size, 22.84 to 46.86 µm in equatorial size, isopolar, and radially symmetrical. The only type of pollen grain ornamentation observed was scabrate-perforate. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed to investigate the relationships of the studied Cyanus taxa.

A. cankiriense is similar to Asperula bornmuelleri Velen. However, A. cankiriense differs mainly in its habitus, stem, leaves, and inflorescence features. In this study, the diagnostic morphological features, distribution, habitat and ecology, etymology, conservation status, and taxonomic features of the new species are discussed. Additionally, pollen micromorphological characteristics of A. cankiriense and A.

  • Meiotic abnormalities lead to morphological and genetic variations which caused not only to evolution but also intraspecific reproductive barriers. During present study of detailed meiotic course in dicotyledonous plants sampled from Indian cold deserts, various meiotic abnormalities have been detected.

  • Fourteen cucumber accessions collected from different Northeast states of India were analysed for variations by means of agro-morphological traits and palynological characteristics. Phenotypic variations in fruit length (19.20 cm – 28.33 cm, fruit width 5.0 cm – 7.3 cm), number of locules (3 – 4/fruit), seed length (0.8 cm – 1.2 cm), seed width (0.3 cm – 0.43 cm) and weight of 100 seeds (1.0 gm – 3.4 gm/ accessions) were observed. Variations were also observed in pollen characteristics among the accessions.

  • Pollen morphological and phytochemical comparative study of nine Saudi Arabian date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cultivars has been carried out. Pollen grains are generally small in size, monad, hetero-polar, asymmetric, elliptic in equatorial view, mono-sulcate. Exine sculpturing is micro-reticulate. Little differences have shown in the pollen dimensions, muri thickness and lumen size. The phytochemical screening of date palm pollen grains revealed the presence of high amounts of phenolics and flavonoids and displayed good antioxidant capacity.

  • The objective of this work was to study the reproductive biology in four nerium cultivars. Anthesis, anther dehiscence, stigma receptivity, flower and fruit morphology, pollen morphology and production, ovule production and pollen ovule ratio were studied. Anthesis in nerium cultivars started from 5.30 a.m. and reached the peak by 6.30 a.m. except in yellow cultivar (6.30 to 7.30 am). Nerium flowers are protandrous in nature and the anthers dehisced by longitudinal slit just before the anthesis. Anther dehiscence started at 5.30 a.m. and maximum anther dehisce was observed between 5.
