Marrubium zeydanlii (Lamiaceae) is described as a new species from Turkey. It is similar to M. depauperatum and M. sivasense; however, it is distinguished from M. depauperatum by having lanate hairs on the stem, oblanceolate dentate leaves, 4–6-flowered verticillasters. It is also distinguished from M. sivasense by having lanate hairs on the stem, oblanceolate leaves, and shorter petals. The pollen grains are radially symmetrical and isopolar, the shape is oblate-spheroidal with the polar axes 16.7–20 µm and the equatorial axes 17.6–19.3 µm.

The viability of the pollen grains from in vitro flowers seemed to be higher than the pollen of in vivo flowers, but the highest pollen germination response (about 33%, in darkness at room temperature for 24 h) was exhibited by the pollen grains from both sources on an in vitro germination medium containing 5% sucrose was not different.

Aethionema aytachii Ertuğrul & Hamzaoğlu, a new species from central Anatolia that grows on marly hills in the Ayaş district of Ankara Province (Turkey), is described and its relationships and distinguishing characters from the closest relative A. dumanii are discussed. The shape of pollen grains of A. aytachii is tricolpate, and its seed-coat sculpture is verrucate. Sequence data of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of the new species was used to determine about its phylogenetic relation within Aethionema.

In this study, three new hybrids from the genus Cirsium are described for the first time. Cirsium ×nezaketiae Yıldız, Dirmenci & Arabacı, C. ×kelkitensis Yıldız, Arabacı & Dirmenci, and C. ×erzincanicum Yıldız, Dirmenci & Arabacı are investigated in detail morphologically, palynologically, and molecularly. The hybrid individuals were detected on field trips due to their intermediate morphological characters. Their morphological properties were analyzed to compare with their parents.

Micromorphological characteristics of 13 Trifolium species, which are grown in the province of Bolu, were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphological characteristics determined from the study were subjected to morphometric analyses and their variation spectrums were defined. Tricolporate pollen grains showed two pollen shapes, prolate and subprolate, according to equatorial view. The smallest size of polar axis length (18.00 μm) was found in T. micranthum Viv. from section Chronosemium Ser.; the largest (88.95 μm) was found in T. hirtum All.

This article describes in detail an advanced statistical method, the artificial neural network, and the possibilities for its application in aerobiological analyses. The study and models involve the concentration of fungal spores in the air and their relationship with various biological and environmental factors. The author hopes that this work will contribute to a wider use of this method not only in the study of spores but also the concentration of pollen grains.

Airborne pollen grains in Aydın, an important city for agriculture and tourism in the western part of Turkey, were studied for 2 years (2014 and 2015) using the volumetric method. During a 2-year study conducted in the city center, an average of 19,226 pollen grains belonging to 46 taxa were detected. Among these detected taxa, 29 (average 73.97%) belonged to arboreal plants and 17 (average 24.95%) to nonarboreal plants. This study researched atmospheric pollen from Mersin Province using the volumetric method between in 2016 and 2017. The daily, weekly, monthly, and annual distribution of the pollen obtained during the study was identified. The relationship between pollen and meteorological factors was researched using Spearman’s rho analysis. During the two-year study, 32,336 pollen grains/m3 from 40 different taxa [22 trees, 1 grass (Poaceae), and 17 other weeds] were identified. Of the total pollen, 82% belonged to trees, 6.8% to grasses, 11% to other weeds, and unidentified taxa accounted for 0.2%.

Palynological characters of 20 taxa belonging to the Turkish subgenus Cyanus were studied in details using light and scanning electron microscopy. Pollen grains of the subgenus Cyanus were tricolporate or syncolporate, subprolate or prolate-spheroidal, 26.15 to 53 µm in polar size, 22.84 to 46.86 µm in equatorial size, isopolar, and radially symmetrical. The only type of pollen grain ornamentation observed was scabrate-perforate. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed to investigate the relationships of the studied Cyanus taxa.

Asperula cankiriense B.Şahin & Sağıroğlu, a new species discovered in the central Anatolian region of Turkey (Çankırı), is described herein. A. cankiriense is similar to Asperula bornmuelleri Velen. Gene action for various quantitative and qualitative traits was explored in a half diallel involving seven elite inbred lines. Variance/Co-variance graphs revealed that the yield potential traits like (days to 50% pollen shed, days to 75% brown husk, plant height ear placement height, ear length, kernel rows per ear, kernel per row, test weight and grain yield,) displayed that the intercept of the regression line was negative showing over dominance type of gene action.

The aim of present study was to access the pollen in- vitro germination of pollen grains of five citrus species belonging to the family Rutaceae viz., mandarin (citrus. reticulata Blanco) sweet orange (C. sinensis L. Osbeck) grapefruit (C. paradisi Macf.) pummelo (C. maxima Burm. Merr.) and tangelo (C. reticulata × C. maxima or × C. paradise) under low temperature storage conditions during year 2014.
