Synthesis and characterization of PVP coated gadolinium oxide nanoparticles for imaging applications
In this study, polyol method is used to study the fabrication of Gd2O3 nanoparticles for MRI and CT imaging applications. The obtained Gd2O3 nanoparticle surfaces were then encapsulated with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) polymer as a bio-responsive shell.

In this study, Pd/C, Cu/C, and a series of PdCu/C bimetallic electrocatalysts were prepared by microwave-assisted modified polyol method to determine glycerol electrooxidation reaction (GOR) activities. The effect of microwave duration on catalyst structure and GOR activity was investigated on PdCu/C bimetallic catalysts. Also, a commercial Pd/C (com-Pd/C) was used to compare catalytic activities with prepared samples.

At present, the methanol electrooxidation reaction (MOR) activities of carbon supported bimetallic Pt-Ru (M-PtRu@C) catalyst and monometallic Pt (M-Pt@C) catalysts prepared via microwave assisted polyol method and carbon supported Pt-Ru (P-PtRu@C) catalysts prepared by conventional polyol were examined to investigate the effect of the preparation method. These catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photo electron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

The results show that the cerium oxide spherical nanoparticles built from primary nanoparticles with the average size of ~5 nm, exhibited dispersion and uniform size and shapes with their average particle diameter of ~50 nm in size. With such a good morphology, CeO2 material possessed good catalytic activity for the decomposition of methylene blue (MB), in which the material was synthesized at a hydrothermal temperature of 80 oC (CeO2-80) for the best MB decomposition performance.

Nickel catalysts supported on γ-Al2 O3 were synthesized in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) using both alkaline polyol method and hydrazine reduction method while fixing the weight ratio of [(PVP)]/[Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O] at 2. The effects of hydrazine [N2H5OH]/[Ni] and [NaOH]/[Ni] molar ratios on the structural properties of the catalysts were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The average of monodispersed Ni nanoparticles ranged between 8.0 and 13.0 nm.

In our research, hierarchical nano/microscale α-Fe2O3 iron oxide particle system was prepared by modified polyol method with NaBH4 and heat treatment at 900 °C in air. The grain and grain boundary textures of hierarchical nano/microscale α-Fe2O3 oxide particles have been carefully analyzed for the limitation of grain growth in the specific micro/nano oxide structures.

Nickel nanostructures prepared by various methods have received considerable attentions due to their numerous applications. In this study, one-dimensional nickel nanowires (NiNWs) were synthesized by the reduction of nickel (II) chloride in polyol medium. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) served as the surfactant and hydrazine hydrate was used as the reductant.
