  • Lakhimpur is a district of Assam which is most frequently affected by flood due to its topography. During periods of heavy rainfall in this region, sali (winter) rice is mostly affected and farmers suffer a great loss in income. Thus, considering the loss of the farmers, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Lakhimpur has introduced stress tolerant rice variety “Ranjit sub-1” developed by Assam Agricultural University in few pockets of the district. The variety was demonstrated during 2018-19 and 2019-20 using improved cultivation practices.

  • A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Utukur, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, India, during rabi seasons of 2016 and 2017 to test the efficacy of rhizobium inoculation along with fertilizers in popular varieties of groundnut dharani and K-6. The results indicated that, the two test varieties were equally performed regarding number of branches, pods per plant and pod yield in both the years. Different fertilizer levels of 100 and 125% RDF with or without rhizobium did not significantly influence the plant height, number of pods per plant and pod yield.

  • Rice is the staple food for Telangana, requires about 50 lakh tons annually to feed the population. Rice is being cultivated both in kharif and rabi season as one of the most important crop in Telangana.   • Phenotypic screening during kharif 2015 and evaluation of Sub1 introgressed lines in Ranjit and Bahadur for submergence tolerance was done with the 35 genotypes. Out of 35 genotypes 32 were Sub1 introgressed BC2F3 lines (24 BC2F3 lines of the cross -Ranjit x Swarna-Sub1and 8 BC2F3 lines of the cross -Bahadur x Swarna-Sub1) with three parents i.e. Ranjit, Bahadur, and Swarna-Sub1. The phenotypic screening of genotypes showed that all Sub1 introgressed lines had significantly higher survival rates as compared with the original recipient parents whereas less change in plant height was observed.

  • The bio-efficacy of seven popular fungicides viz., tricyclazole 45% + hexaconazole 10 WG, tricyclazole 18% + mancozeb 62% , tricyclazole 75 WP , hexaconazole 5EC, mancozeb 75 WP, mancozeb 63% WP + carbendazim12% WP and cabendazim 50 WP were evaluated against rice blast (Pyricularia grisea) during kharif 2015 and 2016 under temperate agro-climatic conditions of Kashmir.   • Twenty one genotypes were grouped into eight clusters based on D2 values for 11 characters. From the inter cluster D2 values of the eight clusters, it was found that the highest divergence occurred between cluster II and VI followed by cluster I and V, cluster IV and VIII, cluster V and VI, cluster V and VIII and cluster IV and V suggesting that the crosses involving varieties from these clusters would give wider and desirable recombination.

In Chhattisgarh, maize is a kharif season crop and second most important crop next to paddy in terms of both area and production.   • Samba Mahsuri (BPT 5204) is one of the most popular and high yielding rice variety, grown extensively in India and other Asian countries also. However, it is highly susceptible to blast disease, caused by the fungal pathogen Pyricularia oryzae. The near isogenic line C101LAC derived from LAC23 possessing Pi-1 gene was selected as donor, which is located on chromosome 11. The MAS useful to develop resistance line with highest recurrent parent genome within a short period. The C101LAC carrying resistant gene Pi-1 was crossed with Samba Mahsuri to generate the mapping populations.

  • Three rice genotypes of NPT4, NPT5, and QP-5 were successfully selected through mutation breeding using Co60 gamma rays with 250-300 Gy. Of the three lines, two genotypes, NPT4 and NPT5, obtained high yields of 8.9- 9.2 tonnes/ha, had growth duration of 103-110 days in the season of autumn and 130-135 days in the spring season. They exhibited dark green leaves, which were found to be adapted to intensification.

  • Presentation article this study focus on developing new rice varieties which are salt tolerant combine with high yield potentials, high quality using Molecular Markers and convensional breeding. The Saltol QTL introgresion lines were developed and selected through generations from Vietnam popular rice variety AS996 using markers assisted backrossing (MABC). After three backcross generations, the selfing generations were developed. Conventional breeding were used to select the high yield, high quality lines.
