  • Analysis of ca. 1400 km of multichannel seismic data indicate that the distal part of the Sakarya Canyon within the continental rise is an unstable region with sediment erosion. Fourteen buried debris flows (DB1–DB14), in the stacked form within Plio–Quaternary sediments between 1400 and 1950 m water depth, were observed in the surveyed area. Their run-out distances range from 3.8 to 24.4 km. The largest debris flow DB10 affects ca. 225 km2 surficial area transporting ca. 15 km3 of sediment in S to N direction.

  • CeO2–ZrO2-composed NiO and Co3O4 catalysts were prepared by 3 different methods. Both CO methanation and selective CO methanation were carried out. All catalysts were prepared by (1) co-precipitation, (2) surfactantassisted co-precipitation, and (3) surfactant-assisted co-precipitation with ultrasound mixing methods. Catalysts were characterized by using N2 physisorption, XRD, SEM, TEM, and TPR-H2 techniques. The highest surface area value, uniform pore size distribution, and pores having small diameters were observed for the catalysts prepared by using the surfactant and ultrasound.

  • Reaction experiments were also conducted in identical conditions in the presence of catalysts recovered after the reaction. The results indicated that sustainable activity could be achieved in the presence of these spent catalysts with activity losses around 10%. Evaluation of characterization analyses conducted with fresh and spent catalysts showed that the activity loss of SBA15-S catalysts had merely been due to STA leaching, whereas deformation of pore structure had occurred in MCM-41-S catalysts.

  • Herein we synthesized Cu(II) immobilized on Fe 3 O4 @Agarose functionalized with ethanolamine phosphate– salicylaldehyde Schiff base (Fe 3 O4 @Agarose/SAEPH2 /Cu(II)) as a new and cost-effective nanomagnetic catalyst. The nanomagnetic catalyst was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, VSM, SEM-EDX, TEM, TGA, and ICP techniques and it was found that the particles were about 9–25 nm in size and spherical with entrapment of the Fe 3 O4 particles in the hollow pore structure of the agarose.

  • Fe(II)-montmorillonites (Fe(II)-MMTs) were prepared by mixing solutions of Fe(II) and montmorillonite at pH 3.5. Two different Fe(II)-MMTs were prepared and the ferrous iron contents were 40 mg/L and 80 mg/L. All samples were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TGA, DSC, and nitrogen adsorption. By nitrogen adsorption, the pore size can be obtained in the pore diameter curve with average pore widths of 6.67 nm, 9.96 nm, and 17.07 nm, respectively.

  • A new heterogeneous acid catalyst based on a natural resource, Tunisian clay (Clay-H0.5), has been prepared and characterized by FT-IR, FE-SEM, and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), as well as chemical composition, cation exchange capacity, specific surface area, and pore volume. Acid treatment for 0.5 h enlarged the surface area from 78.24 to 186.10 m2/g and pore volume (PV) from 0.186 to 0.281 cm3/g. The catalytic activity of this material was investigated in ketalization reaction under mild solvent-free conditions. This achieved up to 92% isolated yield for only 10 wt.% of the catalyst.

  • Activated carbon (AC), a porous material with high pore volume, attracts increasing attention owing to its potential applications in several fields. The development of a porous structure in AC marginally relies on both the treatment methods and the type of precursor. Thus far, both renewable and nonrenewable precursor sources have been used to synthesize AC with high surface area and pore volume. This study presents the synthesis of AC via physicochemical treatment of waste oil fly ash (OFA), a waste material produced from power plants.

  • The templated porous carbons were prepared from sucrose by one-pot method. In this method in which the pre-synthesis of the hard template is eliminated, the porous carbons were produced by organic-inorganic self-assembly of sucrose, tetraethyl ortosilicate (TEOS), Pluronic P123 and n-butanol in an acidic medium, and subsequent carbonization. The synthesis parameters such as sucrose amount, TEOS molar ratio and carbonization temperature were evaluated for describing their effects on the pore structures of the synthesized carbons.

  • In this study, a novel metal-organic framework (M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67) was successfully prepared using the single layer Fe3O4-ZIF-8 as magnetic core and wrapped a layer of ZIF-67 outer. This M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 was employed as an adsorbent for the adsorption and removal of fipronil and its metabolites from environmental water and cucumber samples. The characterization results suggested that M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 has the double layer structure a polyhedral structure with uniform pores, while ZIF-67 was successfully coated on the surface of Fe3O4-ZIF-8.
