In this study, we develop a model for permeability for porous media using an upscaling technique. For this, we conceptualize a porous medium as a bundle of capillary tubes with the similarly skewed pore size distribution. The proposed model is related to microstructural properties such as maximum radius, porosity, tortuosity and a characteristic constant of porous media.

In clay-rich sedimentary rocks, the pore network is considered to play a key role in controlling transport properties. The pore size distribution (PSD) of clay-rich rocks, the geometrical features of the pore network, and the clay content are parameters governing the diffusion process through clay formations.

Comprehensive ex-situ and in-situ investigations of thermal curing processes in spin-on ultra-low-k thin films conducted by positron annihilation spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies are presented. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy of ex-situ cured samples reveals an onset of the curing process at about 200 ◦C, which advances with increasing curing temperature.

CeO2–ZrO2-composed NiO and Co3O4 catalysts were prepared by 3 different methods. Both CO methanation and selective CO methanation were carried out. All catalysts were prepared by (1) co-precipitation, (2) surfactantassisted co-precipitation, and (3) surfactant-assisted co-precipitation with ultrasound mixing methods. Catalysts were characterized by using N2 physisorption, XRD, SEM, TEM, and TPR-H2 techniques. The highest surface area value, uniform pore size distribution, and pores having small diameters were observed for the catalysts prepared by using the surfactant and ultrasound.

NiO–Al2O3–ZrO2 and Co3O4–Al2O3–ZrO2 catalysts were prepared by three different co-precipitation methods, namely co-precipitation, surfactant-assisted co-precipitation, and surfactant-assisted co-precipitation with ultrasound mixing methods, and their activities were tested in selective CO methanation. Catalysts were characterized using N2 physisorption, XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, and TPR-H2 techniques. CO methanation and selective CO methanation reactions were carried out.

The reduction in flexural strength and compressive strength at 28 days is 14% and 25%, respectively at 7% SRA dosage. In addition, SRA significantly reduces the drying shrinkage and water absorption of mortar. At 7% SRA dosage, the drying shrinkage at 53 days is reduced by 60% while the water absorption rate at 24 hours is reduced by 54%. However, SRA has a minor effect on the pore size distribution, effective porosity, and cumulative intrusion volume of mortar.

The osteogenic capability of the scaffold is influenced by the interconnections between the scaffold pores which facilitate cell distribution, integration with the host tissue and capillary ingrowth. Hence, the preparation of bone scaffolds with applicable pore size and interconnectivity is a significant issue in bone tissue engineering

Estimating water saturation is one of the main challenging aspects in reservoir characterisation. Good estimation of this parameter enables us to calculate reserve accurately. Hence, it is of great importance to estimate precisely water saturation based on hydraulic flow units of reservoir rocks. In this paper, a modified J-function was used and developed to determine the water saturation in the hydrocarbon reservoirs located in field A, Cuu Long basin.

CuO-ZnO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method. Characteristic properties of the synthesized nanoparticles were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, and BJH pore diameter distributions. The formation of highly crystalline CuO and ZnO was confirmed by XRD. FT-IR confirmed that Zn-O and Cu-O bonds were formed in the material.

The modeling and numerical simulation of mass transport in porous media is discussed in this work by using the so-called pore size distribution for computing transport properties. The pore-size distribution is a property of the pore structure of a porous medium. This can be used to estimate the different transport properties, amongst other, the permeability. By starting with a formula for the absolute permeability, the simulation of water and oil transport in reservoirs is considered by solving mass conservation equations with the help of the control volume method.

The porosity and pore size distributions are pore structure parameters which have a direct effect on the permeability of cement paste as well as its durability. This paper is based on laboratory programs comparing the porosity, pore size distributions and water absorption with varying ageing processes of three commercial polymer-modified mortars (SBR, PAE and VAE) as well as unmodified conventional mortar mixes exposed to different curing conditions.

In coarse-textured soils, low water and nutrient holding capacity due to the high number of macropores limits crop growth. To minimize these limitations the application of various soil conditioners (SCs) has been extensively used in recent decades.

The temperature distribution from the top to the bottom of the network is determined by an infrared camera and then these results are adopted in the mathematical model algorithm. During the drying process, the series of images showing the phase change in network is observed and recorded, which will be processed with an algorithm built in MATLAB. From that, we find out the change of network saturation, drying rate and the increase in the number of clusters and in the size of the main cluster in network.

In this research, experiments will be carried out to determine the pore structure, the pore size distribution of γ-Al2O3 particles. Modern and appropriate experimental methods are applied. Descriptions of the experimental methods and equipment are given. The first experiment is the pore structure determination of the material by using environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). The second one is the pore size distribution determination with the help of Hg-porosimetry method. Experimental results will be presented and discussed.

The characteristics of all samples were investigated by ThermoGravimetric - Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Energy-Dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The results indicated that: particles are sphere, uniform and pore size is about 50 nm; the pore systems are hexagonal structure, ordered arrangement; the samples have high surface area (> 600 m2 /g) with narrow pore size distribution curve.

Al-MSU mesoporous materials were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal treatment using water glass as a Si-sources. The obtained samples were characterized by different techniques such as x-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared resonance (IR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The specific surface area (SBET) and mesopore volume, pore size distribution were determined by BET method. The results showed that the Al-MSU mesoporous materials were hexagonal p6mm structure.
