A theoretical study of sound transmission loss across a simply supported double-composite sandwich plate filled with poroplastic material is formulated. Biot's theory is employed to describe wave propagation in elastic porous media. The two face composite plates are modeled as classical thin plates. By using the modal superposition theory, a double series solution for the sound transmission loss of the structure is obtained with the help of the Galerkin method.

Ebook "Modelling water flow in unsaturated porous media: Accounting for nonlinear permeability and material heterogeneity" focuses on two issues related to mathematical and numerical modelling of flow in unsaturated porous media. In the first part numerical solution of the governing equations is discussed, with particular emphasis on the spatial discretization of highly nonlinear permeability coefficient. The second part deals with large scale flow in heterogeneous porous media of binary structure.

The drying process plays an important role in various industries such as chemical engineering, food, agriculture, and construction. The drying process is a complex one due to the phenomena of heat and mass transfer, which take place simultaneously. In principle, these transport processes can be modelling using continuous and discrete approaches.

In this study, we develop a model for permeability for porous media using an upscaling technique. For this, we conceptualize a porous medium as a bundle of capillary tubes with the similarly skewed pore size distribution. The proposed model is related to microstructural properties such as maximum radius, porosity, tortuosity and a characteristic constant of porous media.

The proposed model is related to the electrical conductivity of the pore fluid, the specific electrical conductance and the microstructural parameters of a porous medium. The model predictions are successfully compared with published experimental data as well as another model available in literature. The model opens up new possibilities for prediction of the electrical conductivity of porous materials.

n this work, some popular analytic formulas such as Maxwell (MA), Mori-Tanaka approximation (MTA), and a recent method, named the Polarization approximation (PA) will be applied to estimate the elastic moduli for some porous media. These approximations are simple and robust but can be lack reliability in many cases. The Hashin-Shtrikman (H-S) bounds do not supply an exact value but a range that has been admitted by researchers in material science. Meanwhile, the effective properties by unit cell method using the finite element method (FEM) are considered accurate.

n this paper, we carry out the homogenization of a very rough threedimensional interface separating two dissimilar generally anisotropic poroelastic solids modeled by the Biot theory. The very rough interface is assumed to be a cylindrical surface that rapidly oscillates between two parallel planes, and the motion is time-harmonic. Using the homogenization method with the matrix formulation of the poroelasicity theory, the explicit homogenized equations have been derived.

The modeling and numerical simulation of mass transport in porous media is discussed in this work by using the so-called pore size distribution for computing transport properties. The pore-size distribution is a property of the pore structure of a porous medium. This can be used to estimate the different transport properties, amongst other, the permeability. By starting with a formula for the absolute permeability, the simulation of water and oil transport in reservoirs is considered by solving mass conservation equations with the help of the control volume method.

One of the most important components of pot cultivation of flower crops is the choice of growing medium. It should be well aerated medium with good water retention capacity and good drainage. And ideal growing medium needs to be able to anchor the roots and stems so that the plant will not topple over as it grows larger, yet it should provide adequate moisture, nutrient and aeration to the plant. The cost, local availability and experience in substrate are usually the determining factors for choosing a particular substrate type.
