Osteomyelitis is the infection and inflammation of the bone. Inappropriate use of antibiotics and multidrug resistance has raised the morbidity and mortality rate in chronic osteomyelitis. This study aims to determine the bacterial profile and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of chronic osteomyelitis with special mention to various resistant mechanisms. Samples from osteomyelitis cases were aerobically cultured and isolates from culture positives were identified by standard procedures. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method.

Unexpectedly positive bacterial cultures during prosthesis revision surgery still occur on occasion despite good preoperative diagnostics. In such cases a six-week antibiotic therapy without further surgical intervention is recommended. The aim of this study was to find out how successful this procedure is.

A total of 107 Cutaneous leishmaniasis patients studied during the period from October 2012- april 2013 in TUZ General Hospital. They were 57% males, their ages ranged from 1-60 years old. Clinically, 58% of patients had multiple lesions, while 42% had single lesion. It was found that 36.5% of patients had dry type while 63.5%had wet type lesion. The highest rate of lesion was on upper limbs 57% while the lowest rate in the ear 1%. Highest rate of cases were recorded during February 32.1% while lowest rate of cases were recorded in April 3,37%.

Blood stream infection is one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity of pediatric patients. Early detection of etiological agents and initiation of appropriate antibiotic therapy is utmost important for better prognosis and survival of such patients. BACTEC 9050 culture method is more sensitive than conventional blood culture method for detection of infection in respect to culture positivity rate and early detection.

Chlorobenzenes and chlorotoluenes have been used to produce a number of industrial products. They are toxic and widely detected in environments due to human contributory negligence. In this article, the mixed culture of a toluenes-degrading bacterial strain, Comamonas testosterone KT5 (a Gram-positive, catalase-positive bacterium) and a chlorobenzenes-degrading bacterial strain, Bacillus subtilis DKT (a Gram-negative soil bacterium) effectively degraded both chemical compounds co-contaminating in liquid media.

Chromogenic medium is culture media for simple and fast detection of bacteria using chromogenic substrates, resulting in the different coloration of certain bacteria colonies. Have several advantages over traditional media, such as cysteine-lactose-electrolyte deficient (CLED) medium, allow for easier recognition of mixed growth, save time, reduce workload and provides higher detection rates. To compare between chromogenic colour agar and biochemical tests in identification of organisms causing bacteriuria that associated with urinary Schistosomiasis.

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the finger or toe nail caused by various fungal agents like dermatophytes, non dermatophytes moulds and yeasts. It is necessary to diagnose the infection with proper laboratory evidences before treating them with antifungal drugs, which require prolonged duration of treatment and may have adverse side effects. This study involves comparison of standard laboratory tests in the diagnosis of onychomycosis, namely, potassium hydroxide mount (KOH mount), Calcofluor white staining and fungal culture of the nail clippings.

Corneal blindness is responsible for 1.5 to 2 million new cases of monocular blindness every year in which ocular trauma and corneal ulceration are significant contributors. Corneal infections of fungal etiology are common in India (19-45%). Aspergillus (16– 53%) and Fusarium (10–45%) species are the common pathogens. Purpose: 1.To Identify and isolate the various fungi causing fungal keratitis. 2. To know the usefulness of Gram stain, KOH wet mount and fungal culture in identification of fungi. Materials and Methods: After taking written and informed consent taken.

A detailed analysis of retrospective data on bacterial culture and sensitivity documented in a tertiary care hospital in Puducherry was carried out, with an aim of assessing the feasibility of giving prompt treatment topatients with mono-microbialdiabetic foot ulcer infections. In a patient strength of 40, consisting of 30 males and 10 females,mono-microbial infection rate was 45.0% (18/40),andpolymicrobialinfection was 55.0% (22/40). About 55.5% of patients affected by mono-microbial infection were in the age group of 50 to 69 years, among whom, males formed a majority.

This study aimed to evaluate the fungi toxic effect of palmarosa essential oil (Cymbopogon martinii) on mycelial growth of Fusarium verticillioides in vitro and treatment of corn seeds. For the in vitro experiment the essential oil was added to the culture medium and poured into Petri dishes, using seven different oil concentrations (0.0125, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2%), 0.0% was the negative control, and we used Thiram as a positive control. Discs of culture medium with fungal mycelium were inoculated into the center of the plates and incubated for seven days at 27 ± 2°C.

Over the period of years infections caused by multidrug resistance organisms has emerged as a major public health problem. Their prevalence rates vary in different parts of the world and hence local data regarding these pathogens were important. Our study was aimed to identify the presence of ESBL and AmpC producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates from various clinical samples in our hospital setup various clinical samples were processed consecutively during the study period for microbiological analysis as per standard operating procedure.

Burn wound infections are most serious and often lead to life- threatening complications which are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in burns patients. Generally burn wound has high susceptibility rate of bacterial colonization and infection, this is because of destroyed skin barrier due to burns and which leads to direct bacterimic spread. To detect the prevalence of MRSA producers among Gram positive cocci and ESBL producers among Gram negative bacilli from the burn wound isolates. This Prospective study was conducted for 3 months (May, June July 2017) at Govt.

Study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus sakei as protective culture on extended storage of chicken breast fillets kept under refrigeration temperature. Chicken fillets were allotted in to two different treatment groups namely, T1 (as control) and T2 (with Lactobacillus sakei). Total viable count increased significantly in both the samples with the advancement of storage period. Coli titre count was found to be nil in all the samples throughout the storage period up to 12th day. No E. coli organisms could be isolated on 0, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th day in both the samples.

This prospective study was carried out in Department of Microbiology, Government medical college Kota between July 2015 and June 2016. The incidence of renal stone was more in male (N 70) (70%) as compared with female (N 30) (30%) i.e., in the ratio of 2:1. Urine culture was positive more in females (63.67% in female vs. 37.32% in male approx.

Ebola virus is a deadly causative agent with a high mortality rate of up to 90%, therefore it has been classified by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a category A biological agent. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended using RT-PCR based assays to rapidly detect the virus. In the present study, we established an in-house assay for detection of Zaire ebolavirus via real-time RT-PCR. The nucleotide sequence of the Zaire ebolavirus nucleoprotein (NP) gene was retrieved from the Genbank for designing primer pairs and probes using Primer Express 3.0 software.

Tanzania ranks 15th among the world’s 22 countries with the largest tuberculosis burden and tuberculosis has continued to be among the major public health problems in the country. Limited data, especially in patients co infected with HIV, are available to predict the duration of time required for a smear positive pulmonary tuberculosis patient to achieve sputum conversion after starting effective treatment.
