Skeletal muscle development is closely linked to meat production and its quality. This study is the first to quantify the proteomes and metabolomes of breast muscle in two distinct chicken breeds at embryonic day 12 (ED 12), ED 17, post-hatch D 1 and D 14 using mass spectrometry-based approaches.

In avian species, liver is the main site of de novo lipogenesis, and hepatic lipid metabolism relates closely to adipose fat deposition. Using our fat and lean chicken lines of striking differences in abdominal fat content, post-hatch lipid metabolism in both liver and adipose tissues has been studied extensively. However, whether molecular discrepancy for hepatic lipid metabolism exists in chicken embryos remains obscure.

The dramatic increase in myotomal muscle mass in post-hatching fish is related to their ability to lastingly produce new muscle fibres, a process termed hyperplasia. The molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying fish muscle hyperplasia largely remain unknown. In this study, we aimed to characterize intrinsic properties of myogenic cells originating from hyperplasic fish muscle.

Artificial selection of modern meat-producing chickens (broilers) for production characteristics has led to dramatic changes in phenotype, yet the impact of this selection on metabolic and molecular mechanisms is poorly understood.

Various studies of chicken muscle development have focused on identifying miRNAs that are important for embryo or adult muscle development. However, little is known about the role of miRNAs in the whole muscle development process from embryonic to post-hatching periods.

The biological experiment was carried out with a total of five hundred and twenty five day old straight-run Japanese quail chicks up to 5 weeks of age. At the end of five weeks post hatch growth performance study, six birds from each treatment group were drawn randomly and subjected to humane method of slaughter. The study was conducted to assess the carcass yield on post-hatch performance of Japanese quail as influenced by supplementing Omega-3 PUFA rich oil sources like fish oil and linseed oil, independently and simultaneously at 2 and 4 per cent levels.

A study was conducted to assess the Post hatch growth performance in Japanese quail fed with Omega-3 PUFA rich sources like fish oil and linseed oil, independently and simultaneously at 2 and 4 per cent levels in quail ration. The biological experiment was carried out by using, five hundred and twenty five day old straight-run Japanese quail chicks up to 5 weeks of age for post hatch growth performance studies. Individual body weight and total feed consumption in each replicate group were recorded at weekly intervals to calculate the weight gain and feed efficiency.

Many parasites regulate their development to synchronize their life cycle with a compatible host. The parasitic nematode Heterodera glycines displays incomplete host-mediated hatching behavior wherein some H. glycines individuals hatch only in the presence of a host-derived cue while others hatch in water alone.

Aiming at verifying the effect of host on the development, the biology of Rhyzopertha Dominica (Fab.) was studied on paddy variety, Sumati, Maize Hybrid DHM-111 and sorghum variety M 35-1 during 2009-10 in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The biological parameters assessed were egg duration, egg hatching percentage, total larval and pupal period, total development period, fecundity, male and female longevity, sex ratio, pre-oviposition, oviposition and post oviposition period.

In commercial broiler hatcheries, chicks hatch over a period of 20–36 hours. The chicks are removed from the hatch tray of the incubator after a majority of them have cleared from the eggshell. Then, the chicks undergo various hatchery practices like sexing, vaccination, packaging, and transport before they are placed in a commercial broiler farm. Thus, under practical conditions, chicks remain deprived of feed and water for about 48– 72 hours after hatching.

Commercial hatcheries concentrate their efforts on maximum hatching of fertile eggs and on marketing viable chicks adapted to customer requirements. Environmental conditions for incubation are controlled automatically and are safeguarded by supplementary mechanisms activated in case of unexpected malfunction or disruption of energy sources. High standards of sanitation are essential for the production of high-quality chicks. Generally, economic interests of industrial hatcheries favour the best care of marketable chicks, as this has an influence on the birds’ future performance.
