The development of dysphagia and trismus following posterior C1–C3 fusion is rare compared to occipitocervical fusion, and there are very few reports in the literature. Short upper cervical fusion can produce trismus and dysphagia in a relatively fexed position. Preoperative planning should be individualized based on the patient’s resting neutral alignment to prevent complications.

The biomechanical performance of the hooks and screws in spinal posterior instrumentation is not well-characterized. Screw-bone interface failure at the uppermost and lowermost vertebrae is not uncommon. Some have advocated for the use of supplement hooks to prevent screw loosening.

There are quite a few controversies on the surgical management of single-segment thoracic spinal tuberculosis with neurological deficits (STSTND). In this study, the clinical efficacy and feasibility of one-stage posterior-only transpedicular debridement, interbody fusion, and posterior instrumentation for treating STSTND in adults were retrospectively evaluated.

Comparison between harvesting and preserving the spinous process for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Spinous process has been routinely resected during posterior fusion of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis for fusion bed preparation and local autologous bone graft supplement. However, spinous process serves as an important structure in posterior ligament complex and was the anchorage of paraspinal muscle groups.

These older surgical candidates usually ask the surgeon whether it would be safe to undergo surgery. However, there is no literature assessing the outcomes of laminectomy, fusion and posterior fixation for degenerative lumbar diseases in patients older than 80 years.

It is a great challenge for spine surgeons to correct severe rigid scoliosis. We developed a threestaged correction (one stage posterior release and screw placement, two stage skull-femoral traction and three stage posterior instrumentation) for adult severe scoliosis.

Lenke 5 AIS is a kind of three-dimensional deformity and literature reported it usually accompany with coronal or/and sagittal imbalance. However, the postoperative coronal and sagittal balance in these patients has rarely be analyzed previously and the predict factors for postoperative trunk balance are still unclear.

Traditional one-above and one-below four-screw posterior short-segment instrumentation is used for unstable thoracolumbar burst fractures. However, this method has a high rate of implant failure and early loss of reduction.

Burst fracture is a common thoracolumbar injury that is treated using posterior pedicle instrumentation and fusion combined with transpedicular intracorporeal grafting after reduction. In this study, we compared the outcome of these two techniques by using radiologic imaging and functional outcome.

Short-term studies have demonstrated good surgical outcomes after pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients, but there is a paucity of literature focused on middle-term results, especially regarding patterns of loss of correction.

Spinous processes and posterior ligaments, such as inter- and supraspinous ligaments are often sacrificed either deliberately to harvest osseous material for final spondylodesis e.g. in deformity corrective surgery or accidentally after posterior spinal instrumentation.

The management of thoracolumbar burst fractures traditionally involves posterior pedicle screw fixation, but it has some drawbacks. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures.

There have been only a few reports of subsequent postoperative vertebral fracture following posterior spinal instrumentation fusion, especially in elderly female patients. This study attempted to evaluate the long-term prevalence of subsequent postoperative vertebral fracture in female patients aged 70 years and older who underwent spine decompression and fusion surgery with pedicle screw fixation.

Titanium instrumentations are widely used in orthopedics; the metal bonds with bone in a process called osseointegration. Over time, hydrocarbons adhere to the instrumentation, which weakens the bone-binding ability. Ultraviolet photofunctionalization enhances the bone-binding ability of instrumentation by reducing hydrocarbons.

Transpedicular intracorporeal cement augmentation (TCA) with short segmental posterior instrumentation (SSPI), which provides an ideal immediate analgesic effect and long-term reconstructive stability, is thought to be a sensible advancement to the operative strategy in treating osteonecrosis of the vertebral body (ONV). However, longterm follow-up studies about the treatment are scarce.

Although surgery prevents the progression of deformity and maintains the overall balance of the spine in congenital scoliosis (CS) patients, it is associated with a high risk of perioperative complications. Pulmonary complication is one of the most common complications.
