Bacterial infections are common in postpartum dairy cows. Cortisol level has been observed to increase in dairy cows during peripartum period, and is associated with the endometrial innate immunity against pathogens like E.coli. However, the mechanism underlying how cortisol regulates E.coli-induced inflammatory response in bovine endometrial epithelial cells (BEEC) remains elusive.

In dairy herds, mastitis causes detrimental economic losses. Genetic selection offers a sustainable tool to select animals with reduced susceptibility towards postpartum diseases. Studying underlying mechanisms is important to assess the physiological processes that cause differences between selected haplotypes.

Mastitis is the most frequent diseases for transition cows. Identification of potential biomarkers for diagnosis of mastitis is important for its prevention. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate blood variables related to lipid metabolism, oxidative stress and inflammation, and serum variables that are related to health in postpartum cows.

Endometritis is a prevalent uterine disease in postpartum cows. The disease reduces fertility performance and milk yield, and subsequently, productivity and profitability of dairy farms. The reduction in performance is associated with considerable economic losses on dairy farms.

Hypocalcemia has detrimental effects on health and performance of dairy cows. As hypocalcemic cows show reduced feed intake, we hypothesized that cows with reduced combined rumination and eating time (CRET) may benefit from Ca supplementation.

Left displaced abomasum (LDA) occurs at high frequency in the early postpartum period and can affect production performance of dairy cows. Clinical diagnosis of LDA is usually done by abdominal auscultation and percussion. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential applicability of blood biomarkers for early warning and diagnosis of LDA in dairy cows.

Fertility in dairy cows depends on ovarian cyclicity and on uterine involution. Ovarian cyclicity and uterine involution are delayed when there is uterine dysbiosis (overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria). Fertility in dairy cows may involve a mechanism through which the uterine microbiota affects ovarian cyclicity as well as the transcriptome of the endometrium within the involuting uterus.

Fatty liver is a high incidence of perinatal disease in dairy cows caused by negative energy balance, which seriously threatens the postpartum health and milk production. It has been reported that lysine acetylation plays an important role in substance and energy metabolism.

The puerperal uterine soundness is essential for the re-establishment of postpartum ovarian cyclicity and next pregnancy. Normally calved 36 healthy Holstein Friesian crossbred cows aged between 2nd and 5th lactations were selected immediately after parturition. Day of parturition was considered as day 0 of the experiment.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of PGF2α and antibiotic treatment on fertility parameters in dairy cows. After parturition, 24 cows were assigned into four treatment groups which were PGF2α administration on day 8 and 25 postpartum (n=6 each), antibiotic administration on day 1 to 5 postpartum (n=6) and untreated control group (n=6).

The objectives of this study were to find out the bacteria from postpartum dairy cows, determination of their antimicrobial sensitivity, to diagnose subclinical endometritis via endometrial cytology and evaluation of reproductive performance. Uterine discharge from normally parturited cows (n=23) were examined for aerobic bacterial identification and antimicrobial sensitivity at a weekly interval.

Uterine infections in postpartum phase are the most common and of greatest economic importance in dairy animals. Uterine function is often compromised in cattle by bacterial contamination of the uterine lumen after parturition; pathogenic bacteria frequently persist, causing uterine disease, a key cause of infertility. Certain risk factors resulting in an increase in chance of clinical disease are retained placenta, dystocia, twins and stillbirth calves.

A clinical study was conducted with the objective to isolate and identify the uterine aerobic bacteria in crossbred dairy cows with postpartum subclinical endometritis (SCE). One hundred and ninety four recently calved cows from different organized dairy farms in and around the city of Bangalore were screened for SCE by endometrial cytology using cytobrush technique on 35 day postpartum (dpp) from the cows.

Endometrial histopathology was studied in 16 postpartum dairy cows. Endometrial biopsy was taken from the all experimental animals, to study the histopathological changes of the uterine endometrium. 8 cows in group I (n=8) on day 2 postpartum and were treated with an intramuscular injection of 5 mg methyl ergometrine maleate. All the cows in group I were inserted with Controlled Internal Drug Release device (CIDR) on day 45-55 postpartum intra-vaginally.

In the present study 24 high milk yielding crossbred cows were selected based upon their parity, lactation milk yield and body condition score. These cows were divided into four groups keeping 6 cows in each group. Cows in Group 1 and group 2 were fed with ration containing high NEL having 1.50Mcal/kg and designated as high energy control (HEC) and high energy choline (HECh). Cows in Group 3 and Group 4 were fed with ration containing low NEL having 1.26Mcal/kg and designated as low energy control (LEC) and low energy choline (LECh).

Farmers frequently approach practicing veterinarians for the treatment of cows or buffaloes producing milk which is reddish or pinkish due to the presence of blood in postpartum dairy cows. Farmers suffer from the economic loss because bloody milk is often rejected by the consumers. A HF cross bred cow calved 2 days back showed blood in milk. All the five cows treated successfully with progesterone (Hyprogen), Etamsylate and homeopathic medicine such as curry leaf and lemon extract.
