Pot mums

In India, it is popular among the farmers as Guldaudhi is a commercial flower which is grown for cut flowers, loose flowers, pot mum as well as bedding plant. Flowering in Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. is photperiodically controlled and it is a qualitative short day plant. Under sub-tropical climatic conditions of North India, chrysanthemum produces flowers from October to December.

A pot experiment was conducted during September-2010 to February-2011 at College of Horticulture, Mandsaur (RVSKVV Gwalior), to find out the response of pot mum cultivars Ajina Purple and Dolly White to micro-nutrient sprays viz. Fe, Zn, Mn and B. the different micro-nutrienst alone and in combinations were sprayed to find out the best micro-nutrient treatment for these cultivars in terms of pigment content. The cv. Ajina Purple with 0.4% Fe recorded highest chlorophyll content (2.23 mg/g and 2.18 mg/g) before and after flowering respectively.

Chrysanthemum occupies one of the most important traditional flower and a place of pride, both as commercial flower crop and as pot plant. Though it is a commercially cultivated crop in our country, the location specific cultivars are not available. This experiment was to evaluate the performance and adaptability of different chrysanthemum genotypes under Hyderabad condition and to identify the genotypes suitable for pot mums. For this purpose, Completely Randomised Design with twelve treatments and three replications was established.
