Powdery mildew fungi

On the territory of Vietnam, about 12 000 plant species are cited which are potential hosts for parasitic fungi. Despite the richness of the plant world, reliably known data for obligate parasitic fungi, in powdery mildew (Erisiphales) and rust fungi (Pucciniales), are insufficient for Vietnam.

Powdery mildews are biotrophic pathogenic fungi infecting a number of economically important plants. The grass powdery mildew, Blumeria graminis, has become a model organism to study host specialization of obligate biotrophic fungal pathogens. We resolved the large-scale genomic architecture of B. graminis forma specialis hordei (Bgh) to explore the potential influence of its genome organization on the co-evolutionary process with its host plant, barley (Hordeum vulgare).

Powdery mildew (PM) is one of the most important and widespread plant diseases caused by biotrophic fungi. Notably, while monocot (grass) PM fungi exhibit high-level of host-specialization, many dicot PM fungi display a broad host range. To understand such distinct modes of host-adaptation, we sequenced the genomes of four dicot PM biotypes belonging to Golovinomyces cichoracearum or Oidium neolycopersici.

Podosphaera xanthii is the main causal agent of powdery mildew disease in cucurbits and is responsible for important yield losses in these crops worldwide. Powdery mildew fungi are obligate biotrophs. In these parasites, biotrophy is determined by the presence of haustoria, which are specialized structures of parasitism developed by these fungi for the acquisition of nutrients and the delivery of effectors.

Powdery mildew disease is becomes a serious and widespread problem in many parts of India and abroad. Powdery mildew fungi can grow superficially on leaves of host plants and at severity of infection causes morphological, anatomical and physiological damages of plants. In this connection present attempt has been made to study the diversity of powdery mildew from Phaltan area of Satara District of Maharashtra. Survey was carried during June, 2018 to April, 2019. During the study total 54 host plant species and 07 fungal genera of powdery mildew were reported.

Baking Soda: Sodium bicarbonate is a product that can be used as a natural fungicide for black spot, powdery mildew and brown patch by mixing 4 teaspoons (approximately 1 rounded tablespoon) per gallon of water along with one teaspoon of mild liquid soap or horticultural oil and spraying foliage.
