Resveratrol has demonstrated its ability to regulate BRCA1 gene expression in breast cancer cells, and previous studies have established the binding of MBD proteins to BRCA1 gene promoter regions. The aimed to evaluate the impact of MBD proteins on the regulation of BRCA1, BRCA2, and p16 genes and their consequential effects on breast cancer cells.

Progesterone receptor (PR)-negative tumors have been shown to have worse prognosis and were underrepresented in recent trials on patients with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer. The role of PR-nega‑ tive status in the context of 21-gene recurrence score (RS) and nodal staging remains unclear.

Powdery mildew caused by the fungal pathogen Erysiphe necator is a global disease that reduces yield and quality in grapes (Vitis vinifera L.). Most grape cultivars are susceptible to this pathogen and thus the selection of powdery mildew resistant cultivars is a major objective of grape breeding programs. In this study, we evaluated powdery mildew resistance of a diverse set of 28 commonly cultivated local and international V. vinifera cultivars after artificial inoculations with Erysiphe necator.

Fusarium circinatum is a pressing threat to the cultivation of many economically important pine tree species. Efforts to develop effective disease management strategies can be aided by investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in the host-pathogen interaction between F. circinatum and pine species. Pinus tecunumanii and Pinus patula are two closely related tropical pine species that differ widely in their resistance to F.

Whiteflies are a threat to cassava (Manihot esculenta), an important staple food in many tropical/ subtropical regions. Understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating cassava’s responses against this pest is crucial for developing control strategies. Pathogenesis-related (PR) protein families are an integral part of plant immunity. W

For many years, African Dust Storms (ADE) has been thought to be associated with high prevalence of asthma in Puerto Rico (PR). Endotoxins (ENX) have been associated with ADE particulate matter (PM) and are known to promote pro-inflammatory responses in lung cells of susceptible individuals through the Toll-like receptor (TLR2/4) signaling pathways. Genetic variants are plausible contributors to such susceptibility.

Long-term estrogen deprivation models are widely employed in an in vitro setting to recapitulate the hormonal milieu of breast cancer patients treated with endocrine therapy. Despite the wealth information we have garnered from these models thus far, a comprehensive time-course analysis of the estrogen (ER), progesterone (PR), and human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER-2/neu) receptors on the gene and protein level, coupled with expression array data is currently lacking.

Sequential biopsy of breast cancer is used to assess biomarker effects and drug efficacy. The preoperative “window of opportunity” setting is advantageous to test biomarker changes in response to therapeutic agents in previously untreated primary cancers. This study tested the consistency over time of paired, sequential biomarker measurements on primary, operable breast cancer in the absence of drug therapy.

Progesterone receptor (PR) is expressed from a single gene as two isoforms, PRA and PRB. In normal breast human tissue, PRA and PRB are expressed in equimolar ratios, but isoform ratio is altered during malignant progression, usually leading to high PRA:PRB ratios.

The production and accumulation of pathogenesis-related proteins (PR proteins) in plants in response to biotic or abiotic stresses is well known and is considered as a crucial mechanism for plant defense. A pathogenesis-related protein 4 cDNA was identified from a cacao-Moniliophthora perniciosa interaction cDNA library and named TcPR-4b.

The soil-borne vascular pathogen Verticillium dahliae causes severe wilt symptoms in a wide range of plants including strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa). To enhance our understanding of the effects of V. dahliae on the growth and development of F. × ananassa, the expression patterns of 21 PR-10 genes were investigated by qPCR analysis and metabolite changes were determined by LC-MS in in vitro F. × ananassa plants upon pathogen infection.

Podosphaera aphanis, a predominately biotrophic fungal pathogen, causes significant yield losses of strawberry. China is the largest strawberry producer in the world, and selecting for powdery mildew-resistant cultivars is desirable. However, the resistance mechanism against P. aphanis in the octoploid strawberry remains unclear.

T A total of 23 putative Listeria isolates obtained from different sources, viz. food, animal, human, caterpillar and mosquito were screened for presence of the virulence factors by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR). Multiplex polymerase chain reaction for the amplification of isp and prs genes was employed for genus and species identification, while virulence profiling was employed by amplification of plcA, hlyA, actA, prfA, inlC, inlJ, luxS and fla genes. All strains harbours virulence genes plcA, hlyA, actA, prfA, inlC, inlJ, luxS and fla.

Rice is one of the three major food crops in the world. It is the staple food for most of the people of South-East Asia. Rice productivity fluctuates significantly from region to region; season to season due to biotic and abiotic stress. Sheath blight is one of the major biotic constraints in rice cultivation. It is caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn. This disease can cause yield reduction between 20-50% depending on the severity of infection. Several genotypes reported for sheath blight resistance but none of the genotypes were found with absolute resistance.

Epicardial adipose tissue has been proposed to participate in the pathogenesis of heart failure. The aim of our study was to assess the expression of thermogenic genes (Uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC1α), and PR-domain-missing 16 (PRDM16) in epicardial adipose tissue in patients with heart failure, stablishing the difference according to left ventricular ejection fraction (reduced or preserved).

Tobacco pathogenesis-related protein 1a (PR-1a) is induced in plants during the hypersensitive response (HR) after exposure of plants to salicylic acid (SA) and by develop-mental cues.Gene activation by these diverse stimuli is mediated via anas-1-like element in the PR-1aupstream region. To further analyze the significance of thiscis-acting sequence, an authentic as-1element from the cauliflower mosaic virus 35S RNA promoter was inserted into the PR-1apromoter in place of theas-1-like motif.

Recognition of viral nucleic acids by vertebrate host cells results in the syn-thesis and secretion of type I interferons (IFN-a⁄b), which induce an anti-viral state in neighboring cells. We have cloned the genes and promoters of two type I IFNs from Atlantic salmon. Both genes have the potential to encode IFN transcripts with either a short or a long 5¢-untranslated region, apparently controlled by two distinct promoter regions, PR-I and PR-II, respectively.
