Ebook "Dendritic cell protocols" provides chapter and verse for many useful practical approaches to the art of studying dendritic cells. The book gives information on the usual techniques for derivation of human dendritic cells from precursor stem cells, such as monocytes. In addition it provides data on the difficult tasks of isolating dendritic cells directly from different tissues; whether dendritic cells from precursor cells or from tissues of mouse or human are required, this book contributes practical information.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are 3′–5′ covalently closed RNA rings produced from back-splicing of precursor mRNA in eukaryotes. Recent studies, using both computational and experimental approaches, have allowed advanced characterization of circRNAs, leading the research field into a new era and shedding light on the contribution of circRNAs to disease.

It is frequently assumed that pre-invasive lesions are simpler precursors of cancer and will contain a limited subset of the genomic changes seen in their associated invasive disease. Driver mutations are thought to occur early, but it is not known how many of these are present in pre-invasive lesions.

Age and obesity are dominant risk factors for several common cardiometabolic disorders, and both are known to impair adipose tissue function. However, the underlying cellular and genetic factors linking aging and obesity on adipose tissue function have remained elusive.

Germ cell tumors are relatively common in young men. They derive from a non-invasive precursor, called germ cell neoplasia in situ, but the exact pathogenesis is still unknown. Thus, further understanding provides the basis for diagnostics, prognostics and therapy and is therefore paramount.

Here, we present a one-pot, water-based synthesis of red emissive biocompatible carbon dots (R-CDs) for live bioimaging of U87 microglia tumor spheroids produced in a microwell-based microfluidic device. RCDs were synthesized by the hydrothermal method, using thiourea and para-phenylenediamine as the starting precursors.

A major draw-back to large scale production of bioactive glasses is the high cost of the standard silica precursor, usually tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The current study describes a novel solegel preparation of 45S5 bioactive glass using diatom biosilica from cultured cells of the diatom, Aulacoseira granulata as substitute to TEOS.

Keterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films were fabricated by spray pyrolysis deposition using aqueous precursor solutions with and without the addition of HCl. The effects of HCl on the crystallinity, morphology and photovoltaic properties of CZTS thin films were investigated. The results showed that the presence of HCl had significant effects on the crystal growth, grain size, and surface morphology of the fabricated CZTS thin films resulting in the improvement of the photovoltaic properties of the solar cell.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms are a group of diseases with diverse biological and clinical characteristics. As a provisional separate entity, myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia and genetic rearrangement have been described, which may present an initial clinical behavior of myeloproliferation and be characterized by varied genetic rearrangements.

B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) is a genetically heterogenous malignancy with poor prognosis in relapsed adult patients. The genetic basis for relapse in aneuploid subtypes such as near haploid (NH) and high hyperdiploid (HeH) BCP-ALL is only poorly understood. Pathogenic genetic alterations remain to be identified.

Aging is characterized by loss of function of the adaptive immune system, but the underlying causes are poorly understood. To assess the molecular effects of aging on B cell development, we profiled gene expression and chromatin features genome-wide, including histone modifications and chromosome conformation, in bone marrow pro-B and pre-B cells from young and aged mice.

Diverse molecular alterations associated with smoking in normal and precursor lung cancer cells have been reported, yet their role in lung cancer etiology remains unclear. A prominent example is hypomethylation of the aryl hydrocarbon-receptor repressor (AHRR) locus, which is observed in blood and squamous epithelial cells of smokers, but not in lung cancer.

Recent advances in single-cell techniques have provided the opportunity to finely dissect cellular heterogeneity within populations previously defined by “bulk” assays and to uncover rare cell types. In human hematopoiesis, megakaryocytes and erythroid cells differentiate from a shared precursor, the megakaryocyte-erythroid progenitor (MEP), which remains poorly defined.

This study reports, for the first time, the fabrication of electrospun Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 (CZTS) nanofibers using metal acetate precursors. Viscous poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) solution containing acetate or chloride salts of copper, zinc, and tin was electrospun onto a conductive substrate. The PVP nanofibers that have a mixture of metal salts were annealed at elevated temperatures. After calcination, these nanofibers were treated with the sulfur source and then annealed again in order to generate CZTS nanofibers.

Mixed-phased Inx Sey thin film containing InSe, In2 Se3 and In6 Se7 phases was prepared by M-CBD method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, AFM, optical spectroscopy and J-V measurements. Structural, optical and electrical conductance properties were modified by annealing the films at different temperatures. Optical and morphological properties were also investigated dependently on temperature and concentration of cationic precursor solution.
