Predicting recovery

Robustness of supply chain is rapidly expanding due to mitigation and reduction in the risk of unexpected and destructive events in the companies. As it is impossible for companies to resume their business post major crisis, the prediction of environmental factors that surround the companies paved way for development of a disaster recovery plan. 80% of the companies suffer from business interruptions and lack clarity in disaster management plan.

Weight changes after gastrectomy affect not only quality of life but also prognosis and survival. However, it remains challenging to predict the weight changes of individual patients. Using clinicopathological variables, we built a user-friendly tool to predict weight change after curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

Prediction models can be useful tools for monitoring patient status and personalizing treatment in health care. The goal of this study was to compare the relative strengths and weaknesses of 2 different approaches for predicting functional recovery after knee arthroplasty: A neighbors-based “people-like-me” (PLM) approach and a linear mixed model (LMM) approach.

Seawater injection into chalk-reservoirs on the Norwegian Continental Shelf has increased the oil recovery and reduced seabed subsidence, but not eliminated it. Therefore, understanding rock–fluid interactions is paramount to optimize water injection, predict and control water-induced compaction.

We develop a method, VIPER, to impute the zero values in single-cell RNA sequencing studies to facilitate accurate transcriptome quantification at the single-cell level. VIPER is based on nonnegative sparse regression models and is capable of progressively inferring a sparse set of local neighborhood cells that are most predictive of the expression levels of the cell of interest for imputation.

Lithium (Li) is the lightest metal, has unique physicochemical properties and is the main component of lithium-ion batteries. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries play a very important role in maximizing the performance of electric devices and vehicles. It is predicted that the metal and mineral demand for lithium-ion batteries will increase 56 times by 2050. In order to meet the increasing demand, in addition to known methods, lithium recovery from geothermal waters has become a very popular research subject.

In the postoperative period, immediate recovery of muscular power is essential for patient safety, but this can be affected by anaesthetic drugs, opioids and neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBA). In this cohort study, we evaluated anaesthetic and patient-related factors contributing to reduced postoperative muscle power and pulse oximetric saturation.

Urinary catheterization is universally used during surgery, and the incidence of postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) is very high during recovery. We conducted this study to identify the incidence and predictors of postoperative CRBD after gynaecological surgery in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).

Postoperative nausea and vomiting and postoperative ileus are common after major digestive surgery and represent one of the significant problems in Acute Care Surgery. The delivery model of emergency surgery needs to be improved in order to foster a patient-centered care. The multimodal approach suggested by Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) Guidelines is gaining widespread acceptance but is difficult to apply to emergency surgery.

Identifying populations with poor muscle recovery after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is important for postoperative physical therapy. Preoperative muscle strength is a strong factor that determines postoperative muscle strength. However, this efect may depend on other factors. Thus, predictive models with interaction terms are important for accurately predicting postoperative muscle strength. This study aimed to develop a predictive model for lower muscle strength 12 months after THA which incorporates interaction terms.

Research on landfill gases (LFGs) collection mainly consisting of CH4 and CO2 gases, is not only a solution to decrease environmental risks but also to utilize and generate an alternative clean power source of coal. Many typical landfill cases in Vietnam, which install a recovery system and remove captured CH4 by the flaring methods, are able to contribute to reducing significantly greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with roughly 0.25 tCO2–eq/tons being equivalent to 7.8 million tons of CO2–eq/year.

Recovery trajectories differ between individual patients and it is hypothesizes that they can be used to predict if an individual patient is likely to recover earlier or later. Primary aim of this study was to determine if it is possible to identify recovery trajectories for physical functioning and pain during the first six weeks in patients after TKA. Secondary aim was to explore the association of these trajectories with one-year outcomes.

Physiotherapists are commonly involved in the management of patients immediately following lumbar spinal surgery. There is however, very little research to guide physiotherapy intervention in the acute post-operative period, and the advice provided to patients regarding post-operative walking and physical activity has been shown to be highly variable.

Risk stratification and prognosis prediction of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are largely dependent on pre-treatment information. However, post-treatment data also provides much useful information. In this retrospective study, we explored whether the level of blood count recovery before and after the first minimal residual disease (MRD) negative complete remission (CR) is relevant to clinical outcomes of AML patients.
