The aim of this work was to prepare biodegradable starch aerogels as drug carriers. The effective parameters in the synthesis and the optimal values of these parameters were determined using Minitab experimental design software. Ibuprofen was selected as a model drug for the dissolution study and loaded into optimized aerogel during the last solvent exchange step. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis showed that ibuprofen has been successfully loaded into the aerogel matrix without any effect on the aerogel nature. The drug loading was calculated to be 29%.

Amorphous cerium phosphate was prepared and characterized. Three-level Box-Behnken design (BBD) was employed to analyze the effect of process variables such as initial pH (2–6), contact time (60–180 min), and sorbent amount (0.05–0.15 g) on the sorption capacity of europium. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the main effect of initial pH and sorbent amount has a substantial impact on the sorption of Eu(III). Probability F-value (F = 3 × 10 −3 ) and correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.97) point out that the model is in good accordance with experimental data.

This study aimed to evaluate the ability of magnesium chloride modified carbonized rice hull (MCRH) material for ammonium removal from synthetic and domestic wastewater. The MCRH material was prepared by using waste rice hull from a household rice-processing factory and magnesium chloride salt via a simple mixing and annealing method. The material was then characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

Nitrogen percentage of the products were varied from 4.0% to 6.3%. Sorbents with predicted capacity of 4.5%, 5.0%, 6.3%, and 6.5% were synthesized. The results showed that the actual capacities of the products were close to the predictions, especially for those in the experimental domain, indicating a good model that can be used to prepare sorbents of any desired capacity.
