Weather and climate greatly influence the agricultural productivity in any region. Agricultural production and productivity of any region is regulated by the prevailing climate of that area through temperature, rainfall, light intensity, radiation, sunshine duration etc. The present experiment was carried to understand the influence of different growing environments and genotypes on heat unit requirement, heat use efficiency (HUE) and radiation use efficiency (RUE) in rice at the Instructional cum research Farm, IGKV, Raipur (C.G.) during Kharif-2013.

Blast is one of the most destructive and wide spread disease of rice. It is caused by Magnaporthe grisea (Herbert) Barr in different stages of its growth period. Of the 16 number of isolates collected from different locations of Assam, 6 physiologic races viz., IB8, IB33, IC17, ID1, ID10 and IF1 are found prevailing in this region. The isolate belongs to international race groups IB has not been detected so far in India. Under the race group IB, two new races were identified IB8 and IB33. Besides, in international race group ID and IF new race ID 10 and IF 1 respectively were also identified.

Sigatoka leaf spot disease of banana is spreading at a faster rate causing a serious threat to banana cultivation in Kerala, the southern most state of Indian peninsula which enjoys a humid tropical climate. A survey was conducted under different agro-climatic zones prevailing in the state to study and document the symptomatology and etiology of the pathogen inciting Sigatoka leaf spot disease of banana occurring in the state of Kerala. The climate determines selection of right crop and its sequence for a particular location, while the prevailing weather conditions dictate the potentiality of that crop and nitrogen use. On an average every 1oC rise in temperature could lead to a 20 per cent reduction in crop yields. Therefore, the two big challenges viz., finite cultivable land and rise in temperature have to be overcome by agricultural sector to sustain crop yields. A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2017-18 on the topic entitled “Effect of growing environment on growth and development of rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars.” in sandy loam soil of N.D. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad (U.P.). The experiment consisted of nine treatment combinations comprised of three transplanting dates viz. July 5th, July 15th and July 25th and three varieties viz., NDR-97, NDR-3112 and BPT-5204.

Economics of paddy relay sunhemp system was studied in comparison with economics of paddy-fallow system. Farmers of the Nacharam (V), Khammam (D), Telangana state are generally keeping the land fallow after harvesting kharif paddy due to water scarcity resulting in no income during rabi. As an alternative to the paddy-fallow system, farmers of the Nacharam (V), Khammam (D), Telangana state were educated by the scientists of KVK, Wyra under “National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)” project to grow sunhemp as a relay crop after kharif paddy i.e., paddy-sunhemp system.
