Women living with HIV are at risk for cervical dysplasia and cancer worldwide. In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended that testing for high-risk HPV (hrHPV) infection be incorporated into cervical cancer screening programs using molecular nucleic acid tests (NATs) but this has not previously been done in Uganda.

Opportunistic viral infections such as Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) are often prevalent in HIV patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART) thereby shortening the life span of infected patients. The co-infection of CMV, HBV and HCV among HIV positive patients attending ART clinics across hospitals in Ekiti State, Nigeria, were studied.

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infections are prevalent among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. However, compared to syphilis and HIV, the testing rate for chlamydia and gonorrhea remains low. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility for conducting rapid nucleic acid test for chlamydia and gonorrhea in MSM community-based organizations (CBO).

HIV/AIDS remains a major public health problem globally. The majority of people living with HIV are from Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 15-24 years. HIV testing is crucial as it is the gateway to HIV prevention, treatment, and care; therefore this study determined the prevalence and factors associated with self-reported HIV testing among AGYW in Rwanda.

Thalassemia is one of commonest hereditary disease worldwide, prevalent in humid climates and affects all races. The Transfusion Dependent Thalassemias require regular blood transfusion to survive. The thalassemia patients require lifelong blood transfusion on regular basis- usually administered every 2 to 5 weeks. Due to regular blood transfusion, transfusion transmitted disease e.g. Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections can occur.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD), caused by Treponema pallidum. It not only has significant implications on public health but also facilitates the acquisition of other STDs such as HIV infection as well as complicates pregnancy related outcomes. Maternal syphilis is associated with stillbirths and spontaneous abortions in number of cases. Diagnosis of syphilis is dependent on antibody detection by non treponemal/ cardiolipin (screening test) and treponemal tests (confirmatory tests).

Data generated in ICTC may provide important clues to study the prevalence of HIV infection. Socio-demographic and epidemiological distribution of HIV seropositive patients can also be studied by analyzing these data. This study was planned to know the pattern of HIV infection in ICTC center of a tertiary care teaching hospital.

The association between tuberculosis and HIV presents an immediate and grave public health and socioeconomic threat, particularly in the developing world. The interaction of TB with HIV is two-folded, with TB being the leading cause of death among HIV infected, and HIV infection being the most potent risk factor for a latent TB infection to convert to active disease. The study was conducted on patients diagnosed with pulmonary and extra pulmonary tuberculosis, who were admitted in the wards of National Institute of Tuberculosis & Respiratory diseases (NITRD), New Delhi.

Women living with HIV (WLWH) are at increased risk of persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer compared with women from the general population (WGP). We assessed the prevalence and distribution of cervical high-risk (hr) HPV infection and cytological abnormalities in WLWH compared with WGP in Denmark. Predictors of HPV and cytological abnormalities were estimated in WLWH.

The advent of HAART has been associated with a profound reduction in morbidity and mortality from HIV/AIDS. However, side effects and toxicities associated with HAART may lead to an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of dyslipidemia and determining factors of derangements in lipid profile associated with use of HAART regimens in people living with HIV/AIDS. This cross-sectional study was carried out from October 2012 to April 2014.

Enteric microbial agents in HIV differ in several ways between developing and developed world, the awareness of which can often guide appropriate prevention and patient treatment when limitation of resources prevent laboratory diagnosis of exact etiological agent. The primary objective of this study was to define and compare enteric bacterial pathogens in HIV-1 infected with diarrheal symptoms and non-HIV infected controls with diarrheal symptoms at a tertiary care hospital in northern India.
