  • The present study was carried out to know the prevalence of superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes and to speciate them which may help to control the infection. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of superficial fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, to study the clinic-mycological pattern and to speciate the isolated ones using standard mycological tests. This was a prospective study carried out over a period of one year from June 2014 to May 2015.

  • The aim of this study is to isolate and identify the various organisms from cases of infective keratitis obtained from the department of ophthalmology in our college. Ninety six numbers of cases were included in this study, in the duration period of 18 months i.e. from January 2015 to June 2016. The corneal scrapings were processed by bacterial and fungal culture methods and microscopic examination by Gram’s stain and KOH mount. Bacterial isolates were identified by standard biochemical methods. Our study showed higher prevalence of fungal keratitis i.e. 37 (56.

  • The gray mold disease of capsicum (Capsicum annum var. grossum) caused by Botrytis cinerea Pers. is one of the major destructive fungal disease of bell pepper in Kashmir. The disease symptoms appeared on leaves and fruits of capsicum plant and were prevalent from July to September, causing economic loss to the crop. This disease was first time reported from Kashmir valley. The fungus was isolated on Potato Dextrose Agar from the diseased samples and incubated at 25±20 . Based on pathogenecity, symptomatology and morpho-cultural characteristics, the pathogen was identified as Botrytis cinerea.

  • Otomycosis is an acute, subacute or chronic fungal infection of the external auditory canal. It is worldwide in distribution with a higher prevalence in the hot, humid, and dusty areas of the tropics and subtropics. A wide variety of fungi can cause Otomycosis. In this study, our aim was to determine the most common mode of presentation, predisposing factors, and the spectrum of fungi involved in Otomycosis. 60 Ear discharge samples were collected aseptically using two sterile cotton swabs. One swab was used for direct microscopic examination and used for fungal culture.
