The Mouse Genomes Project is an ongoing collaborative effort to sequence the genomes of the common laboratory mouse strains. In 2011, the initial analysis of sequence variation across 17 strains found 56.7 M unique single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 8.8 M indels.

Human cancers are often sequenced to identify mutations. However, cancers are spatially heterogeneous populations with public mutations in all cells and private mutations in some cells. Without empiric knowledge of how mutations are distributed within a solid tumor it is uncertain whether single or multiple samples adequately sample its heterogeneity.

A unified analysis of DNA sequences from hundreds of tumors concluded that the driver mutations primarily occur in the earliest stages of cancer formation, with relatively few driver mutation events detected in the late-arising subclones.

Between October 2009 and June 2010, the District’s program manager was transitioning the District program to the private company. The Executive Director of Facilities was aware of this transition. During this time, the program manager hired consultants to provide services benefitting the private company and directed them to bill the District. The program manager approved these invoices and submitted them for payment. Due to inadequate oversight of the program manager, the District paid these invoices.

Regulators to date have opted for a relatively "non-interventionist" approach to environmental accounting reform. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, for instance, through surveys and case studies, has identified weaknesses in private sector environmental accounting and promotes the diffusion of accounting "best practices." This outreach- and communication-based approach may be expanded upon in the future, however. There currently are calls from some environmental advocates for more aggressive regulatory actions in this area, such as mandated environmental accounting.

As a starting point, we look at publications from investment banks and at the development of interest rate swap spreads around key fiscal policy events. The euro interest rate swap spread seems to be a good indicator of the relative risk of private versus government long-term bonds versus the private inter-bank market. The main result of our review of investment bank newsletters and notes is that market participants closely observe and contribute to the debate on the SGP and its implementation.

Overall, the rapid development in the market for credit risk transfer played a major role altering banks’ functions. Structurally, securitization allowed banks to turn traditionally illiquid claims (overwhelmingly in the form of bank loans) into marketable securities. The development of securitization has therefore allowed banks to off-load part of their credit exposure to other investors thereby lowering regulatory pressures on capital requirements allowing them to raise new funds.
