The malignant behaviors of lung cancers are affected by not only cancer cells but also many kinds of stromal cells in tumor microenvironment (TME), including macrophages. Macrophages have been proven to extensively influence tumor progression through several mechanisms, among which switching of macrophages from proinflammatory phenotypes (M1-like) to anti-inflammatory phenotypes (M2-like) mediated by transcription factors such as nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) is the most crucial event. The regulation of NF-κB has been well studied, however some details remain fuzzy.

Gout is an inflammatory type of arthritis caused by the deposition of crystals of monosodium urate monohydrate (MSU) in the joints. The arthritis is mediated by the release of proinflammatory cytokines including IL-1β, TNF-α and IL-6 by leukocytes including macrophages.

Radiotherapy is a highly effective treatment for cervical cancer. Recent studies focused on the radiotherapy induced anti-tumor immunity. Whether tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) play roles in radiotherapy induced tumor associated macrophage (TAM) polarization remains unclear.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is known to be a progressive degenerative disorder; however, recent evidence suggests that inflammatory mediators contribute to cartilage degradation. Studies have reported that Nacetylcysteine (NAC) had a promising effect on the reduction of the synthesis of proinflammatory and structural mediators by synovial cells.

Inflammation mediated by the innate immune system is an organism’s protective mechanism against infectious environmental risk factors. It is also a driver of the pathogeneses of various human diseases, including cancer development and progression. Microalgae are increasingly being focused on as sources of bioactive molecules with therapeutic potential against various diseases.

In this study, we investigated the mechanisms that lead to the production of proinflammatory mediators by the murine macrophage cell line, RAW264.7, when these cells are exposed in vitro to recombinant Borrelia burgdorferi basic membrane protein A (rBmpA).

Substantial evidence has shown that most cases of memory impairment are associated with increased neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. In this study, the potential of a standardised Andrographis paniculata aqueous extract (APAE) to reverse neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was examined in vivo. Rats were treated with APAE (50, 100, 200, and 400 mgkg 1 , p.o.) for 7 consecutive days prior to LPS (1 mgkg 1 , i.p.)-induced neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment.

The present study was designed to elucidate the pharmacological and biological effects of Sargassum muticum extracts on the production of inflammatory mediators in macrophages. S. muticum was extracted with 80% EtOH. The extract was then successively partitioned with n-hexane, CH2Cl2, EtOAc, BuOH, and water.

Annane Annals of Intensive Care 2011, 1:7 http://www.annalsofintensivecare.com/content/1/1/7 REVIEW Open Access Corticosteroids for severe sepsis: an evidencebased guide for physicians Djillali Annane Abstract Septic shock is characterized by uncontrolled systemic inflammation that contributes to the progression of organ failures and eventually death. There is now ample evidence that the inability of the host to mount an appropriate hypothalamic-pituitary and adrenal axis response plays a major in overwhelming systemic inflammation during infections.
