The research "Solving constrained optimization tasks in civil engineering using εDifferential Evolution developed with Visual C#. NET" work aims at constructing an evolutionary algorithm based approach for solving complex constrained optimization tasks. The -Differential Evolution ( -DE) proposed by Takahama, et al. [1], is selected as the employed evolutionary approach. The -DE has been proven to be capable optimizer for tackling sophisticated problems in various engineering field. A hybrid analytical-numerical solution is proposed to solve the problem of a laterally loaded pile with a circular cross-section in multilayered soils. In the pile-soil model, the lateral load is located at the pile head including both lateral force and bending moment. The single pile is considered as a beam on elastic foundation while shear beams model the soil column below the pile toe.

In this study, the Ritz variational method is used to analyze and solve the bending problem of rectangular functionally graded material plate with general boundary conditions and subject to some types of load distribution over the entire plate domain. Based on the Kirchoff plate theory, the equilibrium equations are obtained by minimizing the total potential energy.

The purpose of this study was to explore of the role of language switching in a group of Iranian bilingual students while they were involved in mathematical problem solving. Language switching has been viewed as a common practice in bilingual students in their classroom, particularly for mathematics learning. In bilingual students, using their first language to solve at least part of a problem may facilitate mathematical thinking and lead to a successful problem solving process.

This thesis proposes and implements a new and novel solution on simulators and real devices to solve the mobility problem in a VPN. The new solution adds mobility support to existing L2TP/IPsec (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol/IP Security) tunnels. The new solution tunnels Layer 2 packets between VPN clients and a VPN server without using Mobile IP, without incurring tunnel-re-establishment at handoff, without losing packets during handoff, achieves better security than current mobility solutions for VPN, and supports fast handoff in IPv4 networks.

The thesis studied the development and implementation of the conceptual Continuous Improvement Teamworking (CIT) Model for strategic performance improvement in retail banking operations. The investigation using of a dominant qualitative to a Less-dominant quantitative approach as a mixed-method strategy revealed the importance of the CIT Model realised through the CTIO (Concern-Task-Interaction-Outcome) Problem-Solving Cycle. The CTIO Cycle is a variant form of the traditional Deming-Shewhart PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) Cycle.
