  • Whey protein is a derived by-product from cheese manufacturing and has many health benefits due to its high-level content of bioactive peptides, such as β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin, serum albumin, immunoglobulin, and lactoferrin. These proteins have antioxidant characteristics that reduce hypertension, cancer, hyperlipidemia, and virus contagious. In addition, whey protein is utilized to lessen the inflammatory bowel disease. In this review, we highlighted the characteristics, applications, functional properties of whey proteins.

  • Green nanomaterials have gained much attention due to their potential use as therapeutic agents. The present study investigated the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from a silver-resistant Bacillus safensis TEN12 strain, which was isolated from metal contaminated soil and taxonomically identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The formation of AgNPs in bacterial culture was confirmed by using UV–vis spectroscopy with an absorption peak at 426.18 nm.

  • Disease-mediated therapeutic protein–drug interactions have recently gained attention from regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical industries in the development of new biological products. In this study, we developed a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model using SimCYP to predict the impact of elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels on cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes and the treatment effect of an anti-IL-6 monoclonal antibody, sirukumab, in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

  • During the last few years, membrane vesicles (as exovesicles) have emerged as potential nanocarriers for therapeutic applications. They are receiving attention due to their proteo-lipid nature, size, biocompatibility and biodegradability. In this work, we investigated the potential use of isolated root plasma membrane vesicles from broccoli plants as nanocarriers. For that, the entrapment efficiency and integrity of the vesicles were determined. Also, the delivery of keratinocytes and penetrability through skin were studied.

  • Recombinant cell lines developed for therapeutic antibody production often suffer instability or lose recombinant protein expression during long-term culture. Heterogeneous gene expression among cell line subclones may result from epigenetic modifications of DNA or histones, the protein component of chromatin.

  • Protein transduction is safer than viral vector-mediated transduction for the delivery of a therapeutic protein into a cell. Fusion proteins with an arginine-rich cell-penetrating peptide have been produced in E. coli, but the low solubility of the fusion protein expressed in E. coli impedes the large-scale production of fusion proteins from E. coli.

  • Recent strategies for the treatment of cancer, other than just tumor cell killing have been under intensive development, such as anti-angiogenic therapeutic approach. Angiogenesis inhibition is an important strategy for the treatment of solid tumors, which basically depends on cutting off the blood supply to tumor micro-regions, resulting in pan-hypoxia and pan-necrosis within solid tumor tissues. The differential activation of angiogenesis between normal and tumor tissues makes this process an attractive strategic target for anti-tumor drug discovery.
