Prolong survival of the patients

Radiotherapy interruption (RTI) prolongs the overall total treatment time and leads to local control loss in many cancers, but it is unclear in esophageal cancer. We aimed to evaluate the influence of RTI on the overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local-regional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) of patients with esophageal cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy.

Gemcitabine is a cornerstone drug for the treatment of all stages of pancreatic cancer and can prolong the survival of patients with pancreatic cancer, but resistance to gemcitabine in pancreatic cancer patients hinders its efficacy.

Ripretinib is a novel switch-control kinase inhibitor that inhibits KIT and PDGFRA signaling. In the INVIC‑ TUS phase 3 trial, ripretinib increased median progression-free survival and prolonged overall survival vs. placebo in ≥fourth-line advanced GIST. Here, we report prespecified analysis of quality of life (QoL) as assessed by patientreported outcome (PRO) measures and an exploratory analysis evaluating the impact of alopecia on QoL.

Recent studies have shown that the high incidence and low cure rate of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have not improved signifcantly. Surgery and liver transplantation are the mainstays of prolonging the survival of HCC patients. However, the surgical resection rate of HCC patients is very low, and even after radical surgical resection, the recurrence rate at 5 years postoperatively remains high and the prognosis is very poor, so more treatment options are urgently needed.

Patients presenting with inoperable colon cancer at first onset (ICF) or at time of relapse (ICR) are considered in unrecoverable. The therapeutic goal for unrecoverable cancer is to prolong overall survival (OS) and maintain a high quality of life (QOL).

Clinical studies have shown that first-line use of anti-angiogenetic therapy can prolong progressionfree survival but little progress has been made in extending the overall survival of the patients. We explored the role of ELK3 in glioma angiogenesis to improve and design more efficacious therapies.

Trifuridine/tipiracil (FTD/TPI) prolongs survival in the third- or later-line treatment for advanced gastric cancer (GC), esophagogastric junction (EGJ) adenocarcinoma, and colorectal cancer. While single-arm phase II trials showed promising outcomes of FTD/TPI plus ramucirumab (RAM) as third- or later-line treatments for advanced GC or EGJ cancer, there have been no clinical trials to directly compare FTD/TPI plus RAM with FTD/TPI monotherapy.

Although the standard therapy for advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is systemic chemotherapy, the combination of atezolizumab and bevacizumab (atezo+bev) with a high objective response rate may lead to conversion to resection in patients with initially unresectable HCC. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of atezo+bev in achieving conversion surgery and prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) for initially unresectable HCC.

Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is the standard treatment for pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). It can significantly prolong the survival of patients, but at the same time may increase the risk of postoperative infection.

The prognosis of most cancers has been improved in recent years due to the increased survival of cancer patients, the prolonged lifespan of the general population, and better diagnostic and surgical approaches. Subsequently, the number of patients with multiple primary carcinomas (MPCs) has become greater.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors prolong the survival of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Although it has been acknowledged that there is some correlation between the efficacy of anti-programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) antibody therapy and immunohistochemical analysis, this technique is not yet considered foolproof for predicting a favourable outcome of PD-1 antibody therapy.

Inhibitors targeting immune checkpoints, such as PD-1/PD-L1 and CTLA-4, have prolonged survival in small groups of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, but biomarkers predictive of the response to the immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remain rare.

The nosocomial pathogen Enterococcus faecium can survive for prolonged periods of time on surfaces in the absence of nutrients. This trait is thought to contribute to the ability of E. faecium to spread among patients in hospitals. There is currently a lack of data on the mechanisms that are responsible for the ability of E. faecium to survive in the absence of nutrients.

A nomogram was developed to predict lymph node metastasis (LNM) for patients with early-stage esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: We used the clinical data of ESCC patients with pathological T1 stage disease who underwent surgery from January 2011 to June 2018 to develop a nomogram model.

Cisplatin (CDDP) significantly prolongs survival in various cancers, but many patients also develop resistance that results in treatment failure. Thus, this study aimed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms by which ovarian cancer cells acquire CDDP resistance.

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) is an innovative modality based on high precision planning and delivery. Cancer with bone metastases and oligometastases are associated with an intermediate or good prognosis. We assume that prolonged survival rates would be achieved if both the primary tumor and metastases are controlled by local treatment.

Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) during 15 h/day or more prolongs survival in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and severe hypoxemia. No randomized controlled trial has evaluated the net effects (benefits or harms) from LTOT 24 h/day compared with 15 h/day or the effect in conditions other than COPD.

Long-term outcome and quality of life (QOL) in patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation after failure to wean in the ICU is scarcely documented. We aimed to evaluate long-term survival and QOL in patients discharged from the ICU with a tracheostomy for difficult weaning, and with or without ventilator dependency at ICU discharge.

Cancer vaccine is one of the attractive treatment modalities for patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). However, because of delayed immune responses, its clinical benefits, besides for overall survival (OS), are not well captured by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) criteria.

Elevated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was associated with poor prognosis in leptomeningeal carcinomatosis and anti-angiogenic therapy was found to prolong the survival of mice in preclinical studies. This prospective pilot study investigated the efficacy of anti-VEGF therapy plus chemotherapy in patients with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis originating from breast cancer.
