A carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)-degrading bacterium was isolated from soil, identified as Bacillus methylotrophicus according to the physiological properties and analyses of 16S rRNA and a partial sequence of the gyrase A (gyrA) gene, and named as B. methylotrophicus Y37. The CMCase enzyme was purified to homogeneity by 20.4-fold with 21.73% recovery using single-step hydrophobic interaction chromatography and biochemically characterized. CMCase showed a molecular weight of approximately 50 kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Polymer blending as an efficient method for blending at least two polymers is usually used to create new materials with desirable physical properties. This article focuses on the biodegradability evaluation of polypropylene (PP) fibers modified with disposable recycled poly(lactic acid) (r-PLA) plastic flakes. Biodegradable modified PP fibers containing 30% r-PLA were prepared by melt spinning process and evaluated with different methods of biodegradation assays.

A pot experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2016-17 and 2017-18 in completely randomized design with two lime levels (0 and ¼ lime of LR), four phosphorus levels (0, 13.4, 26.8 and 40.2 mg P2O5 kg-1 ) and three boron levels (0, 0.45 and 0.90 mg B kg-1 ) to study the treatment effect on nutrient content and uptake of maize and soil properties. It was observed that lime had a significant effect on biomass yield, nutrient content and uptake of maize.

A field experiment was conducted on a silty clay loam soil (acidic in reaction and medium in available NPK) during Rabi 2018-19 at Palampur to study the influence of nutrient management practices (Inorganic (RDF), Organic, Natural and Integrated) and varieties (‘Him Palam Alsi-2’, ‘Himani’ and ‘Priyam’) on yield, uptake, quality and soil properties in linseed. Results, revealed that among different nutrient management practices, Integrated Nutrient Management being at par with inorganic practice resulted in significantly higher seed, straw, uptake of NPK and oil yield.

The field experiment was conducted the year 2014-2015 on the old long-term fertilizer experiment started since 1983 to assess characterization of humus in soil and it’s relation with physical and physic-chemical properties of soil under the long – term effect of integrated nutrient management in sorghum wheat cropping system. The study showed that there was fraction of humus tended to decrease with depth and use of organics like subabul and FYM in conjunction with NPK fertilizers exerted a remarkable impact on the distribution and built up of humus fractions in soil.

Physico- chemical properties of soil have profound influence on soil enzyme acid phosphatases activity. To study the distribution of soil enzyme acid phosphatase and influence of physico- chemical properties on soil enzyme acid phosphatases activity forty soil samples were collected from different villages of Ranga Reddy district of Telangana state. These samples were analysed for the physicochemical properties like pH, EC, available nutrients, texture and organic carbon and soil enzyme activity was assayed.

The surface (0-15 cm) soil samples were used for analyzing the soil properties. The soil properties were determined using soil analytical methods given by Jackson (1973). Organic carbon content determined by wet digestion method of Walkley and Black, available nitrogen (N) by Kjeldahl’s method, available phosphorous (P) by Bray and Kurtz method and available potassium (K) by flame photometric method. The data collected on various parameters have been statistically analysed as per the method of Panse and Sukhatme (1978).

Nine typical pedons representing major quartzite-schistose landscape in tropical ecosystem of Goa viz., high hills, restricted summits, low hills, inter-hilly valley and narrow valley under varying land use were studied for their morphological characteristics, physical and chemical properties, soil genesis and taxonomy. The soils were slightly to moderately acidic in reaction, very shallow to very deep. Texture of the soils varied from gravelly sandy clay loam to gravelly clay on the hills and sandy clay loam to clay in valley soils.

The nano-lime and nano-dolomite had the surface areas of 1000 and 900 m2 g -1 , respectively, which are nearly 10 times higher than their respective conventional counter parts. Nano-liming is more effective due to the extensive surface areas of these materials that had increased by ten times which correspondingly increased the exchange properties. As a result of eluviations of acidity producing cations, the Ca and Mg added through the liming materials got adsorbed that closely coincided with a set of favourable changes in soil properties.
