A total of 5 female dogs of varying age group were admitted at Ranchi Veterinary College in Dept. of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology for elective ovariohysterectomy. All the dogs were premedicated with Atropine sulphate, s/c @ 0.04 mg/kg b.wt. 5 min prior to each treatment. Xylazine @1 mg/kg b.wt –tramadol @ 3 mg/kg b.wt IM thereafter propofol to effect” IV 15 min later and maintained by C.R.I method of propofol @0.3 mg/kg b.wt/min. Twelve dogs of either sex presented to the college clinic with surgical conditions like pyometra, urethral calculi, fractures and mammary tumours were utilized to study the effect of ketofol and propofol after premedication with atropine sulphate, diazepam and fentanyl. The animals were divided into two groups of six animals each. Ketofol (1:1) combination was given intravenously in group I dogs. Propofol @ 6 mg/kg b.wt. intravenously was given in group II dogs.

The study was conducted on six healthy non-descript goats of either sex weighing 20-25 kg by giving atropine sulphate (0.04 mg/kg I/M) followed by detomidine (15 µg/kg I/M) and 10 min. later followed by induction of anaesthesia with propofol (5mg/kg I/V). There was decrease in spontaneous activity with marked sedation as well as lowering of head after detomidine administration in all the animals. After administration of propofol, there was rapid and smooth induction of anaesthesia (0.460.51 min).

The experiment was conducted on six healthy non-descript goats of either sex weighing between 20-25 kg by administrating atropine sulphate @ 0.04 mg/kg I/M followed by buprenorphine @ 10 mg/kg I/M and 10 min. later followed by induction of anaesthesia with propofol @ 5mg/kg I/V. After buprenorphine administration, lowering of head was observed in all the animals within 8.20±0.58 min. After propofol injection, there was rapid and smooth onset of anaesthesia (0.500.55 min).
