This research, anchored on the Value Chain Analysis (VCA) framework, delved at describing the slipper industry in the so-called footwear capital of the North in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, the “Gapan City”. It utilized a descriptive research design and involved 46 slipper manufacturers as respondents. The researchers particularly focused on the industry's business operation in terms of inputs provision, production, marketing, cost and return analysis, prospects, problems and constraints of the slipper industry.

Because input-output modeling is costly to perform, particularly for a particular situation, it is common to extrapolate available data to a particular situation. For example, the U.S. Federal Highway Administration assumes that, on average, a $1 billion of Federal highway expenditure supported 30,000 jobs in 2007 (FHWA 2008). This number has been widely applied, although recent analysis by Heintz, Pollin and Garrett‐Peltier (2009) suggests that actual impacts are somewhat lower. In addition, the models include many assumptions that may be inaccurate or outdated.

In addition to measuring the effect of relation size and indices on the response time for selection, join, aggregation, and update queries, we also analyze the performance of Gamma relative to the number of processors employed when the sizes of the input relations are kept constant (speedup) and when the sizes of the input relations are increased proportionally to the number of processors (scaleup).
