The purpose of this paper is to present the design, prototype and control of an active prosthetic leg. The research scope encompasses the mechanical design, the electronic design and the control system design. The mechanical design covers kinematic diagram design, dynamic system modelling and 3D design.

Patellofemoral overstuffing after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can cause limited range of motion and anterior knee pain. This study compared anterior prominence of femoral components among different prothesis designs in surgical simulation models utilizing the anterior reference (AR) and posterior reference (PR) techniques.

The newly designed cervical disc prosthesis, Pretic-I, had been fnisher its limited clinical use for over 5 years. At a short-term follow-up of 2 years, we obtained satisfactory clinical results. The long-term clinical efficacy and safety of Pretic-I will now be analyzed.

To report the outcomes of computer-aided resection and endoprosthesis design for the management of malignant bone tumors around the knee. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data were input into computer software to produce three-dimensional (3D) models of the tumor extent.

The cross-sectional morphology of the prosthetic knee is crucial to understanding patellar motion and quadriceps strength after total knee arthroplasty. However, few comparative evaluations of the cross-sectional morphology of the femoral trochlea have been performed in the native knee and currently available femoral implants.

The purpose of this study was to examine biomechanical properties and the degree of radiolucency of two cemented basic glenoid designs for total shoulder arthroplasty. Our hypothesis was that a component with increased micro-motion in the laboratory at time zero would also exhibit a greater amount of radiolucency in patients at a minimum of 2 years post total shoulder arthroplasty.

There is no universal hip implant suitably fills all femoral types, whether prostheses of porous short-stem suitable for Hip Arthroplasty is to be measured scientifically. Mechanically, these four sorts of artificial joint replacement are stabilized in quantity. Cemented short-stem prostheses present the biggest stress, while porous short-stem & cemented long-stem designs are equivalently better than porous long-stem prostheses and alternatives for femoral-head replacement. The preferred design of those two depends on clinical conditions.

Individualized and accurate implantation of a tibial prosthesis during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can assist in uniformly distributing the load and reducing the polyethylene wear to obtain a long-term prosthetic survival rate, but individualized and accurate implantation of a tibial prosthesis during TKA remains challenging.

The incidence of patient dissatisfaction due to anterior knee pain (AKP) and patellar crepitus after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains a concern. However, it has been shown that improvements in the femoral component of traditional prostheses could reduce these instances of pain in the case of TKA performed with patellar resurfacing.

Both cylindrical and tapered stems are commonly used in revision total hip arthroplasty. However, whether the geometry of prosthesis stem has an effect on patient prognosis is unclear. We assume that the tapered stem results in better clinical outcome than the cylindrical stem.

A prosthesis is an equipment provided to people who lost one or some parts of their limbs to help them having almost normal behaviors in daily or hard activities. The convenience and intelligence of devices should create easiness and flexibility for users. Artificial devices require interdisciplinary collaboration from neurosurgeons, surgical surgeons, physiotherapists and equipment development. Computer engineering plays a crucial role in the design step, supporting manufacturing, training and recognition to match the desirability of customers.

This paper presents the design of a hand prosthesis and the implementation of an anthropomorphic finger with three degrees of freedom. The design integrates anatomical considerations, which will be emulated with alternative materials that meet the biological characteristics of the hand. The built model is inspired by the real anatomy of a human finger, in order to provide all the different handholds.

In this study, a 3D finite element model of an intact mandible was used for the simulation of the movement of the lower jaw and analysis of the effects of TemporoMandibular Joint (TMJ) prosthesis replacement on the jaw movement. Seven bundles of muscle fibers were inserted in their appropriate positions following anatomical data.

Analysis results highlight that the shear stress distribution and vortex flow regime are serious affected by the leaflet opening situation and valve geometry. Maximum shear stress takes place near the center of leaflet trailing edge and near the aortic root where jet impingement takes place. The analysis results can be used to specify the requirements of crucial criteria of prosthesis aortic valve and to optimize the prosthesis aortic design.
