Ebook "Genetic engineering: Principles and methods (Volume 28)" presents state-of-the-art discussions in modern genetics and genetic engineering. This focus affirms a commitment to publish important reviews of the broadest interest to geneticists and their colleagues in affiliated disciplines. Recent volumes have covered gene therapy research, genetic mapping, plant science and technology, transport protein biochemistry, and viral vectors in gene therapy, among other topics.

The practice continues in the Himalayan regions of the sub-continent. Elms grow fast and regenerate rapidly by seed, are resistant to pruning and root damage and adapt exceptionally well to unfavorable environmental conditions prevalent in the region. However, little information is available on the nutrient composition and nutritive value of Elm leaves as animal feed in the temperate regions of the country particularly in Kashmir.

The jowarkadbi, soybean straw, napier and concentrate mixture were containing on an average 90.23, 87.62, 29.75, 91.12 per cent DM, respectively. The CP content 3.74, 6.13, 5.77, 17.34 per cent respectively. The chemical composition indicated that soybean straw contained more protein and crude fibre than that of jowarkadbi.

Sechium edule is an underutilized, rapidly perishable vegetable crop commonly grown in North East India. Attempts have been made in present investigation to formulate value added products from this vegetable. Results suggest that vegetable dumplings and tutti-frutti developed have reasonable amount of proximate principles and can be stored up to three months thereby increasing the shelf life of the vegetable. Results indicate that raw vegetable had very high moisture content (87.38%). Value addition to the vegetable led to significant increase in the protein content (21.

The documentation is not only to aid the further education programme, but is also suitable for self study. The theory presented covering the fundamental physical principles, method of operation, type and possible uses of the sensors has been designed for use with the training case but could be used independently to study the application of sensors in automaticcontrol.

We have hitherto examined what is called the ultimate division of plants. That is, we have looked at each one of the elements separately, and considered its use in vegetable growth.[Pg 44] Of what do wood, starch and the other vegetable compounds chiefly consist? Are their small ashy parts important? What are these compounds called? Into how many classes may proximate principles be divided? Of what do the first class consist? The second? What vegetable compounds do the first class comprise? We will now examine another division of plants, called their proximate division.
