Cowpea is important multipurpose crop which is used for the purpose of food, feed, forage, catch crop, green manuring and cover crop. The crop is prone to rust disease which causes severe yield loss. Hence to manage the disease chemicals which are expensive and hazardous are usually used by the farmers. Alternately a different strategy to manage the same was experimented with the use of elicitors which are compounds which activate chemical defence in plants and this induced defence response in susceptible variety C-152 was examined.

The aim of the study was to assess Pseudomonas sp. for their plant growth and antagonistic activity against most probable fungal pathogens associated with apple and pear plants viz., Dematophora sp., Fusarium sp., Pythium sp. and Sclerotium sp. These isolates were phenotypically and biochemically characterized from the rhizosphere of normal and replant sites of apple and pear from different locations of two districts of H.P i.e. Chamba and Mandi.

An experiment was carried out to study the interaction of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, Paecilomyces lilacinus, Pochonia chlamydosporia, Trichoderma viride, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescence on the growth of black gram. This study was done to investigate the role of some bacterial genera as biocontrol agent against Meloidogyne incognita. Paecilomyces lilacinus significantly increased the growth parameters of the black gram viz.

Study carried out of this disease over a period of time revealed that Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn affects the yield severely whenever it occurs at any stage of the crop. In spite chemical measures like copper oxy chloride is recommended based on the previous studies on Rhizoctonia spp., the new fungicides need to be evaluated to find out the effective and economic fungitoxicants with which the disease can be controlled. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the disease, it was planned to elucidate the biocontrol and fungicidal capacity as soil and seed treatment against the pathogen, R.

Replant disease is a major problem of apple orchards, which is a main cash crop in TransHimalayan region. The cause of this replant problem includes both biotic and abiotic factors, such as low nutrients, phytotoxins, actinomycetes, fungal complexes and nematodes. Fungi and oomycetes belonging to the well-known root rot complex are important factor of replant problems in apple.

Rice is an important staple food for more than half of the world’s population and is subject to diseases that often place major biological constraints on production. Sheath blight of rice is caused by a soil borne fungus and biological control of the disease is an efficient substitute to replace chemical methods. In the present study thirty native fluorescent Pseudomonads, an efficient biocontrol agent have been isolated and confirmed by cultural, morphological, biochemical characterization and visualization under UV light.

Two Pseudomonas spp. are isolated from different natural sources i.e. soil rhizosphere and marine water on selective media like cetrimide agar base and King’s B medium. Pseudomonas fluorescence NCIM 5096 and other two isolated of Pseudomonas produced siderophore with the yield 71%, 72.33%, 33% of hydroxamate type, in iron free succinate medium (SM). Nutrient medium inhibited the growth of siderophore while the succinate medium gave the maximum production of siderophore. pH has important role in production of siderophore i.e.

Objective of the research was to validate the potential of Syzygium aromaticum and Kaempheria galanga against biofilm formation and plasmid borne drug resistance exhibited by Pseudomonas spp. Antimicrobial property of S.aromaticum and K.galanga on P.aeruginosa culture was assessed using the agar well diffusion method. Crystal violet assay was employed to determine the percentage inhibition of P.aeruginosa biofilm by the extracts following generation of biofilm on multiwell plates.

Biological control is known to be effective eco-friendly method for the management of crop diseases (Cook and Baker, 1983). Rhizosphere antagonists were isolated from healthy rhizosphere soil samples of chilli collected from major chilli growing areas of Andhra Pradesh. A total of 20 rhizosphere microbes were isolated. Out of which (eight fungal antagonists, ten bacterial antagonists and two fluorescent Pseudomonads) were found to exhibit antagonism against chilli wilt pathogen. On further in vitro evaluation, nine isolates including four fungi, four bacteria and one pseudomonas sp.

A field experiment was conducted at KVK, Kalburgi, on black soils. The zero tillage practices were followed since 3 years in five main plots and different reduced nutrient levels were imposed as subplots, by following split plot design. Every year same crop pigeonpea genotype TS-3R was grown. The prophylactic measures were undertaken against pests and diseases. Biological observations were analysed at 50 per cent flowering.
