The winged-helix domain within the N-terminus of human MUS81 has been considered as potential target for drug development since the inhibition of this protein might significantly enhance the sensitivity of various cancer cells towards anticancer drugs. Nine cytotoxic triterpenoids previously purified from Helicteres hirsuta and Pterospermum truncatolobatum were selected for the docking experiment.

Crystalline iron boride (Fe2B) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized with magnesiothermic reduction reactions triggered by mechanochemical synthesis (MCS) and purified using selective hydrochloric (HCl) acid leaching. Various parameters of MCS were investigated in detail to optimize the synthesis conditions.

Variation in human skin pigmentation evolved in response to the selective pressure of ultra-violet radiation (UVR). Selection to maintain darker skin in high UVR environments is expected to constrain pigmentation phenotype and variation in pigmentation loci.

While there is evidence of both purifying and balancing selection in immune defense genes, largescale genetic diversity in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), an important part of the innate immune system released from dermal glands in the skin, has remained uninvestigated.

State-of-the-art methods assessing pathogenic non-coding variants have mostly been characterized on common disease-associated polymorphisms, yet with modest accuracy and strong positional biases. In this study, we curated 737 high-confidence pathogenic non-coding variants associated with monogenic Mendelian diseases.

An important goal of cancer genomics is to identify systematically cancer-causing mutations. A common approach is to identify sites with high ratios of non-synonymous to synonymous mutations; however, if synonymous mutations are under purifying selection, this methodology leads to identification of false-positive mutations.

The wealth of available genetic information is allowing the reconstruction of human demographic and adaptive history. Demography and purifying selection affect the purge of rare, deleterious mutations from the human population, whereas positive and balancing selection can increase the frequency of advantageous variants, improving survival and reproduction in specific environmental conditions.

The present study is aimed on isolation of OxO enzyme from Pseudomonas strain under high salt stress. The OxO enzyme was produced in bulk under selected salt stress. It was partially purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation method, dialysis and ion-exchange chromatography. The OxO enzyme on enzymatic analysis showed potent activity concerning oxalic acid substrate. The microtiter plate analysis confirmed the ability of OxO enzyme purified from Pseudomonas strain in the diagnosis of oxalate-related disorders and in the future could be used to prepare the diagnostic biosensors

In the present study, attempts were made to produce biologically active recombinant mouse hephaestin as a secretory form tagged with green fluorescent protein (GFP), Hpsec-GFP. Plasmid expressing Hpsec-GFP was constructed and transfected into COS and CHO cells. The GFP aided the monitoring expression in real time to select the best conditions to maximise expression and provided a tag for purifying and analysing Hpsec-GFP. The protein had detectable oxidase activity as shown by in-gel and solution-based assays.

With only 2 % of the human genome consisting of protein coding genes, functionality across the rest of the genome has been the subject of much debate. This has gained further impetus in recent years due to a rapidly growing catalogue of genomic elements, based primarily on biochemical signatures (e.g. the ENCODE project). While the assessment of functionality is a complex task, the presence of selection acting on a genomic region is a strong indicator of importance. In this study, we apply population genetic methods to investigate signals overlaying several classes of regulatory elements.

Salmonid fishes are characterised by a very high level of variation in trophic, ecological, physiological, and life history adaptations. Some salmonid taxa show exceptional potential for fast, within-lake diversification into morphologically and ecologically distinct variants, often in parallel; these are the lake-resident charr and whitefish (several species in the genera Salvelinus and Coregonus).

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) is an economically important and contagious viral disease of poultry. An attempt was made for development of a synthetic peptide based diagnostic reagent. Cell culture adapted viral antigen was prepared by successful passage on CEF and then ultracentrifugation to get partially purified virus. Confirmation of the virus in was done by RT- PCR. The antigen was then used for the production of hyper immune sera in rabbits. Sera samples were also collected from known IBD vaccinated and non-vaccinated birds.

Nonsynonymous mutations change the protein sequences and are frequently subjected to natural selection. The same goes for nonsense mutations that introduce pre-mature stop codons into CDSs (coding sequences). Synonymous mutations, however, are intuitively thought to be functionally silent and evolutionarily neutral.

Bovine Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency (BLAD), Bovine Citrullinaemia (BC), and Complex Vertebral Malformation (CVM) are the common autosomal recessive disorders in cattle affecting dairy industry. The present study was designed to standardize allelespecific PCR based genotyping method for examining the occurrence of these disorders in Indian cattle population. A total of 327 indigenous (Bos indicus), exotic (HF) cattle breeds and HF crossbreds (Bos taurus × Bos indicus) from various parts of India were screened.
