  • This third recorded yellow-flowered species of the genus is characterized by the absence of stolons, glabrous young leaves, smaller leaves with short petioles, compacted inflorescence with short peduncles, rays and pedicels, white upper lobes of corolla with yellow margin and purple lines throughout, undulate disc-lobes and glabrous ovary. The new taxon is described and illustrated with field photographs of detailed botanical characteristics and assessed as CR following the IUCN Redlist Categories. A key to all yellowflowered Billolivia taxa is provided.

  • Thirty interspecific crosses (including reciprocals) involving three genotypes/varieties of greengram (Vigna radiate (L) Wilczek) cv. HUM 1 HUM 2 & HUM 8 and five genotypes/varieties of blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) cv. T 9, Pant U 19, PDU 1, BHUU 1 & BHUU 91-346-1 were attempted. Nine out of 30 crosses were successful only when greengram was used as seed parents. The crossability ranged from 0.0 to 61.0 per cent. Germination, survival and pod bearing habit of the F1s hybrids were much better in Kharif season as compared to spring/summer season.

  • The inheritance pattern of flower colour in underutilized tuberous legume crop yam bean was studies by utilizing a white flower colour line (YBWF1) and two purple flower colour lines (RM-1 and L No-3). The F1 and F2 population along with parental lines were evaluated to study the inheritance pattern of the flower colour. All the F1 hybrids showed purple colour in both the crosses and in the F2 segregation generation, the observed distribution of the flower colour fitted the expected Mendalian ratio of 3 (Purple flower colour):1 (white flower colour).

  • For the establishment of the distinctness among 31 accessions of Oryza glaberrima, eight morphological traits following Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability test (DUS) studied. Out of 31 accessions studied, two accessions viz., EC861804, EC861805 were found to be highly distinct as they possessed distinct traits namely purple split ligule, medium green leaves, erect flag leaf, presence of awn along with lodging tolerance indicating their usefulness as donors for crop improvement programmes. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences for all the characters studied.

  • Heterosis over mid parent was estimated in thirty crosses of China aster involving six lines viz., Matsumoto Pink, Matsumoto Red, Matsumoto Rose, Matsumoto Yellow, Matsumoto Scarlet and Matsumoto White and five testers viz., Phule Ganesh Violet, Phule Ganesh Purple, IIHRJ3-2, IIHRG13 and Local White during 2016-17 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru. Results revealed that the cross L5 × T1 exhibited highest positive significant relative heterosis for plant height, number of branches per plant, and duration of flowering.

  • A pot experiment was conducted during September-2010 to February-2011 at College of Horticulture, Mandsaur (RVSKVV Gwalior), to find out the response of pot mum cultivars Ajina Purple and Dolly White to micro-nutrient sprays viz. Fe, Zn, Mn and B. the different micro-nutrienst alone and in combinations were sprayed to find out the best micro-nutrient treatment for these cultivars in terms of pigment content. The cv.   • China aster (Callistephus chinensis L. (Nees.)) is a semi hardy annual and commercial flower crop belonging to the family Asteraceae. China aster is a self pollinated crop, but the natural outcrossing is approximately 10 per cent as reported and described floral biology of China aster. The study results revealed that high heritability along with high genetic advance existed in cross viz., AAC-1 × Arka Poornima and Arka Kamini × P G Purple for number of flowers per plant, individual flower weight and flower yield per plant.

  • Field experiment was conducted under AICRP on Vegetable Crops, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, during Rabi season of 2018-19 to identify the suitable pole type of dolichos bean genotype (s) under the trial. Fourteen pole type dolichos bean genotypes were evaluated for seventeen characters by adopting randomized block design replicated thrice. Significant differences were recorded for all traits studied. 2016/DOLPVAR-6 was the earliest to flower in 34.27 days. 2016/DOLPVAR-5 recorded highest pod length (16.98 cm) and number of seeds pod-1 (4.67). Pod width was highest in 2016/DOLPVAR-12 (3.79 cm).
