The etiology of ASD involves both inherited and environmental risk factors, with epigenetic processes hypothesized as one mechanism by which both genetic and non-genetic variation influence gene regulation and pathogenesis. The aim of this study was to identify DNA methylation biomarkers of ASD detectable at birth.

One of the major impediments to spiny lobster aquaculture is the high cost of hatchery production due to the long and complex larval cycle and poor survival during the many moult stages, especially at metamorphosis. We examined if the key trait of larval survival can be improved through selection by determining if genetic variance exists for this trait.

To optimize marker-assisted selection programs, knowledge of the genetic architecture of phenotypic traits is very important for breeders. Generally, most phenotypes, e.g. morphological and physiological traits, are quantitatively inherited, and thus detection of the genes underlying variation for these traits is difficult.

Most traits targeted in the genetic improvement of hop are quantitative in nature. Improvement based on selection of these traits requires a comprehensive understanding of their inheritance. This study estimated quantitative genetic parameters for 20 traits related to three key objectives for the genetic improvement of hop: cone chemistry, cone yield and agronomic characteristics.

Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var durum) is tetraploid wheat (AABB); it is the main source of semolina and other pasta products. Grain yield in wheat is quantitatively inherited and influenced by the environment. The genetic map construction constitutes the essential step in identifying quantitative trait loci (QTLs) linked to complex traits, such as grain yield. The study aimed to construct a genetic linkage map of two parents that are widely grown durum cultivars (Lahn and Cham1) in the Mediterranean basin, which is characterized by varying climate changes.

Telmatochromis temporalis is a cichlid fish endemic to Lake Tanganyika. The normal and dwarf morphs of this fish are a clear example of ongoing ecological speciation, and body size plays an important role in this speciation event as a magic trait. However, the genetic basis underlying this trait has not been studied.

Genetic association studies that seek to explain the inheritance of complex traits typically fail to explain a majority of the heritability of the trait under study. Thus, we are left with a gap in the map from genotype to phenotype.

The present investigation was undertaken for combining ability studies on quantitative and qualitative traits at C.H.F., CAU, Pasighat, A.P. The 28 F1 hybrids were developed by crossing 8 diverse brinjal genotypes/varieties in half diallel fashion. The variances due to GCA and SCA were significant for most of the characters indicating the importance of both additive and non-additive gene action in the inheritance of these characters.

The nonparametric trend test (NPT) is well suitable for identifying the genetic variants associated with quantitative traits when the trait values do not satisfy the normal distribution assumption. If the genetic model, defined according to the mode of inheritance, is known, the NPT derived under the given genetic model is optimal. However, in practice, the genetic model is often unknown beforehand.

The extent of variability and heritability of the characters among the genotypes is the basic source for the exploitation of superior potentiality of genotypes. Calculation of GCV and PCV will gives the extent of environmental influence on the traits, whereas heritability gives the information on the magnitude of inheritance of quantitative traits, while genetic advance will be helpful in formulating suitable selection procedures.

Attempts has made to find the inheritance pattern of free threshability and other quantitative traits in emmer wheat has fragile rachis and non-free threshing kernels by crossing a non free threshing variety dicoccum DDK-1025, with two advanced free threshable mutant lines (ML-1 and ML-2) during Rabi 2013. Genetic systems operating in the both the crosses were found different for most of the characters as evident by differences in nature of gene action in these two crosses.

The genetic basis of variation in 10 X 10 diallel, diverse lines of Brassica juncea L. was examined. The parents were crossed in all possible combinations excluding reciprocals. The performance of 45 F1 hybrids and 10 parents were evaluated for number of seeds per siliqua, 1000 seed weight, seed yield per plant and oil content. Analysis of variance showed highly significant differences for these traits. The two scaling tests i.e.

Northern Corn Leaf Blight (NCLB or NLB) caused by Exserohilum turcicum is a common disease of maize in many parts of the world including India. Resistance to NCLB is complexly inherited and controlled by several quantitative trait loci (QTL) distributed across the genome. Phenotype as well as linked DNA marker based selection for resistance to NCLB is expected to be effective. Hence an investigation was carried out involving a total of 569 F2:3 families derived from two crosses viz., PH234 X PHBP3 and PH234 X PH84K, where PH234 is resistant parent and PHBP3 and PH84K are susceptible parents.

Little information is available regarding genetic control and inheritance of economically important traits in bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.). Previous genetic studies of this crop used a narrow range of germplasm and in different environmental conditions. Thirty one genotypes of bitter gourd were accessed concerning the variability, heritability and genetic advance for 12 quantitative traits. Analysis of variance showed significant differences among the genotypes for all the characters.

Correlation and presence of genetic interactions was studied using F2 and F3 generations in two cowpea crosses for yield and its component traits. Most of the characters studied were positively skewed and were being governed by several genes indicating quantitative inheritance. Variance, skewness and kurtosis have also indicated that homozygosity has increased from the generation to generation in cowpea crosses. Cross A (C-152 × V-16) was found better than crossB (C-152 × V-57817) in providing high yielding segregants displaying parental diversity.
