Ebook "Innate immunity of plants, animals, and humans" wants to give an overview of our current knowledge about the innate immune system of plants, animals and humans. It not only covers the innate immune mechanisms and responses of so diverse organisms such as plants, Cnidaria, Drosophila, urochordates and zebrafish, but also the major receptor systems in mammalians and humans as well as the central defense mechanisms, antimicrobial peptides and the complement system.

Ebook "Mechanisms of insulin action" will attempt to dissect the complexity of the molecular mechanisms of insulin action with a special emphasis on those features of the system that are subject to alteration in type 2 diabetes and other insulin resistant states. We explore insulin action at the most basic levels, through complex systems. The book will be appealing to basic and clinical scientists.

Breast cancer (BC) patients tend to suffer from distant metastasis, especially bone metastasis. All the analysis based on open-accessed data was performed in R software, dependent on multiple algorithms and packages. The RNA levels of specific genes were detected using quantitative Real-time PCR as a method of detecting the RNA levels.

Stonin1 (STON1) is an endocytic protein but its role in cancer remains unclear. Here, we investigated the immune role of STON1 in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC). We undertook bioinformatics analyses of the expression and clinical significance of STON1 in KIRC through a series of public databases, and the role of STON1 in the tumor microenvironment and the predictive value for immunotherapy and targeted treatment in KIRC were identified with R packages.

In this study, bioinformatics is applied to genetic testing for BC diagnosis; namely the R programming language combined with the bioinformatics toolkit was used to analyze gene expression levels between normal and tumor tissues in three gene expression profiles (GSE29431, GSE42568, GSE21422).

Nucleotide binding site leucine-rich repeats (NBS-LRR) genes encode a large class of disease resistance (R) proteins in plants. Extensive studies have been carried out to identify and investigate NBS-encoding gene families in many important plant species. However, no comprehensive research into NBS-encoding genes in the Rosaceae has been performed.

Rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most devastating pathogens in rice. Avirulence genes in this fungus share a gene-for-gene relationship with the resistance genes in its host rice. Although numerous studies have shown that rice blast R-genes are extremely diverse and evolve rapidly in their host populations, little is known about the evolutionary patterns of the Avr-genes in the pathogens.

Alternative splicing is a biological process during gene expression that allows a single gene to code for multiple proteins. However, splicing patterns can be altered in some conditions or diseases. Here, we present BANDITS, a R/Bioconductor package to perform differential splicing, at both gene and transcript level, based on RNA-seq data.

Crystallization processes of lipid matrices were characterized by X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry. pDNA binding ability of SLNs and the stability of pDNA-SLN complexes with DNase I enzyme were also determined by gel electrophoresis. It was determined that all formulations became positively charged with DOTAP®R. They were able to bind DNA and were partially protective against enzyme degradation. Although additional studies are necessary, this study reveals the promising potential of this gene delivery system for gene therapy.

Morphological, biochemical characteristics and 16S rRNA gene sequences were used as a tool for bacterial identification. Both STR 0103f and STR 0404f isolates were identified as Rummeliibacillus sp. which are Rummeliibacillus pycnus STR 0103f and Rummeliibacillus stabekisii STR 0404f, respectively. Thus, R. pycnus STR 0103f and R. stabekisii STR 0404f would be the novel bacterial strains from fermented vegetable products that act as the potential probiotic candidates for safety food bio-preservation.

Rheum palmatum has been widely developed in traditional Chinese medicine. One of the major active compounds in R. palmatum is flavonoids. Until now, few genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis have been isolated from this medicinal plant. In this study, a new chalcone isomerase gene (RpCHI) was cloned from an RNA-seq library of R. palmatum. The 714bp RpCHI cDNA was cloned and sequenced.

The workflow or framework includes the following steps: data processing, sequence clustering, taxonomic assignment, and data visualization. Moreover, we also like to catch readers’ attention to the information about bacterial communities living in the ocean as most marine microorganisms are unculturable, especially residing in coral reefs, namely, bacteria are associated with the coral Acropora tenuis in this case.
