A long term field experiment was conducted since kharif 2015 for evaluating the effect of inorganic and organic sources of nutrients on soil physical properties and productivity on direct seeded rice ( Oryza satia L.) – MTU1010 under rainfed midland situation at Bastar plateau zone at S. G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. Random block design was used with twelve treatments and four replications to carry out experiment. The full recommended dose of fertilizer for rice crop was 100kg ha-1 Nitrogen, 60 kg ha-1 phosphorus and 40 kg ha-1.

Water stress periods are common in rainfed agriculture therefore the activities aimed at conserving the rainwater should be adopted for improving the productivity of dryland crops. The major crops in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra are cotton, soybean and sorghum. It was observed that the drought situation may arise during crop growth period which may result in partial failure of crops. It was therefore felt worthwhile to adopt the proper methods of in-situ moisture conservation so as to partially meet out the adverse effect of water stress in standing crop.

KVK, Chandgothi, Churu (Rajasthan) conducted total 50 Front Line Demonstrations on cowpea at farmers field in Churu District (Rajasthan) during two consecutive kharif seasons from 2014 to 2015. The farming situation was rainfed and soil was sandy loam low in nitrogen, medium in phosphorus and medium to high in potash. Assessment of gap was done and on the basis of gap assessment, improved recommended technologies were demonstrated.

Groundnut is the mostly grown commercial oilseed for millions of small scale farmers in the semi-arid topics and under rainfed conditions in Andhra Pradesh. The productivity of groundnut grown under rainfed situation is declining from the actual production of 1.23 m t to the lowest yield of 0.8t ha-1 in India, under the crop area coverage of 1.38 m ha.

A field experiment was conducted at KVK, Kalburgi, on black soils. The zero tillage practices were followed since 3 years in five main plots and different reduced nutrient levels were imposed as subplots, by following split plot design. Every year same crop pigeonpea genotype TS-3R was grown. The prophylactic measures were undertaken against pests and diseases. Biological observations were analysed at 50 per cent flowering.

Soybean is cultivated in a wider range of cropping systems due to its compatibility in various cropping systems. Its cultivation in rainfed situation and lack of diversification of rabi crop leads to lower the productivity, increases risk of crop failure. Under such circumstances, the diversification of crops under soybean based cropping system appears to be a possible way for improving the biomass productivity and production efficiency per unit area per year without jeopardizing the soil health.

In recent years, there has been increasing recognition of the importance of millets in India, since major cereals which are grown on good soils supplied with large quantity of fertilizer, irrigation and pesticide inputs have attained yield plateau. Millets have potentiality of contributing to increase food production, both in developing and developed countries. In general, millets are rich in many minerals besides their better adaptability to adverse growing conditions. Millets are cultivated mainly as rainfed crop.
