Ramp type demand

This paper presents an economic order quantity model for deteriorating items where demand has different pattern with unknown time horizon. The model generates optimal replenishment schedules, order quantity and costs using a general ramp-type demand pattern that allows three-phase variation in demand.

The effect of both types of discounts in optimising the profit is examined through numerical illustrations. Sensitivity analysis is also appended to find out the effect of various system parameters. From this study it is observed that it will be more advantageous for management to offer pre deterioration discount in enticing the profit.

We have developed an order level inventory system for deteriorating items with demand rate as a ramp type function of time. The finite production rate is proportional to the demand rate and the deterioration rate is independent of time. The unit production cost is inversely proportional to the demand rate.

In this paper, an inventory model with general ramp-type demand rate, partial backlogging of unsatisfied demand and time-varying holding cost is considered; where the “Time-varying holding cost” means that the holding cost is a function of time, i.e. it is time dependent. The model is studied under the following different replenishment policies: (1) starting with no shortages (2) starting with shortages.

This note tries to provide a patch work for the paper of Chang Dye and Chuang. Their paper contains an important finding of smoothly connected property that can very dramatically simplify the solution procedure of many inventory models with ramp type demand and trapezoidal type demand. Our improvement will arouse attention of the researchers and help them apply their important findings in the pending research projects.

This paper deals with the effects of inflation and time discounting on an inventory model with general ramp type demand rate, time dependent (Weibull) deterioration rate and partial backlogging of unsatisfied demand. The model is studied under the replenishment policy, starting with shortages under two different types of backlogging rates, and their comparative study is also provided. We then use the computer software, MATLAB to find the optimal replenishment policies.

This paper is an extension of Deng et al. (2007) that was published in the European Journal of Operational Research. We have generalized their model from ramp type demand to arbitrary positive demand while theoretically discovering an important phenomenon: The optimal solution is actually independent of the demand as pointed out by Wou (2010), Hung (2011) and Lin (2011).

In this present paper an inventory model is developed with ramp type demand, starting with shortage and three – parameter Weibull distribution deterioration. A brief analysis of the cost involved is carried out by an example.
