Rare earth alloys

Mn-Ga-based alloy system has exhibited hard magnetic properties, although this alloy system contains no rare earth elements. However, magnetic parameters of Mn-Ga alloys have not yet been comparable to those of rare earth magnets such as Nd-Fe-B, Sm-Co, etc. Therefore, enhancement of the magnetic properties of the Mn-Ga-based alloys has interestingly been researched by scientists in the world.

Thermodynamic properties of some rare-earth alloys have been studied using the statistical moment method (SMM) and analytic expressions of the Helmholtz free energy and thermodynamic properties of some rare-earth alloys have been obtained.

In this present work, A356 aluminum alloy is heat treated with the addition of copper, rare earth and strontium were investigated. T6 treatment is preferred in this work (solution at 535°C for 4h + aging at 150°C for 15h) when compared to other heat treatment processes (i.e short heat treatment processes).

The rare-earth-free hard magnetic material MnBi is potential for permanent magnet high-temperature applications with the ferromagnetic phase formed at low temperature (noted as a Low Temperature Phase – LTP). Up to now, the MnBi powders with high LTP content and coercivity have usually been prepared using the melt-spinning technique. However, the large difference in the melting temperature Tm of the two constituents, Mn and Bi, and the strong reactivity of Bi with the copper-based wheel make the preparation of high-performance MnBi ribbons to be difficult.

In this paper, we present the effects of subtituting elements of M (Ti, Si and Nb) and annealing temperatures on the structure and magnetic properties of Co79-xZr18+x-yMyB3 alloy ribbons (x = 0 - 2, y = 0 - 4). Hard magnetic properties of the alloy ribbons can be strengthened so significantly as a coercivity of Hc > 4 kOe and maximum energy product of (BH)max > 3.5 MGOe with an appropriate concentration of Ti, Si or Nb and annealing process.

The saturated magnetization in 20% substituted La0.8R0.2(Fe0.88Si0.12)13 (R = Sm, Tb) magneto-caloric alloys is discussed in this work. The measurements were taken up to 70 kOe (7 Tesla) to detect the saturation of magnetic moments.

Metallic fuel has been considered for sodium-cooled fast reactors because it can maximize the uranium resources. It generates rare earth elements as fission products, where it is reported by aggravating the fuelecladding chemical interaction at the operating temperature. Rare earth elements form a multicomponent alloy (CeeNdePreLaeSmeetc.) during reactor operation, where it shows a higher reaction thickness than a single element.

The calculating results showed that the melting temperature of alloys increases with increasing pressure. The melting temperatures of defect alloys of AgCe, Ag2Ce and Ag3Ce are always slightly lower than that of perfect alloys. Especially, the melting temperatures value of the perfect and defect alloys were almost the same at high pressure. The melting temperature of alloys increase with an increase in amount of Ag containing in the alloys.
